Ann W. Mathias ~ July 9, 2023

Spencerport: At age 70, Ann passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at her home in Spencerport, NY. She was born on March 12, 1953 in Rochester, NY to the late Allen and Jane Ward. Survived by her beloved husband, Alan S. Mathias; her children, Jeffrey (Yagna Nag Chowdhuri) Mathias, Melanie Mathias, and her brother, Dave (Lin) Ward, along with several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Ann was unfailingly generous. She gave of herself freely and without expectation: as a wife, a mother, a volunteer, and a beloved community member. Ann loved the great outdoors and a good book. Ever curious and an adventurer at heart, Ann explored places near and far. Her travels took her from the Grand Canyon to Mexico to India but she never lost her love for upstate New York, where she loved to kayak, watch birds, and ride her bicycle. Ann was blessed with a deep sense of rootedness, tracing her family’s genealogy across centuries and keeping history alive for her children. Ann was a skilled quilter and a gifted gardener who loved nothing more than to sit and watch her garden grow.

  1. Ann was a lovely, gracious, warm and welcoming woman. We were the “youngsters” in our Book Club in Scottsville, and enjoyed so many afternoons of good books and good fellowship! My sincerest condolences to the entire family. May you all cherish her memories as we all do.

  2. How sad I am to hear of Ann’s passing. We grew up in Lakeville and were classmates at LCS. I still remember piano lessons at her house, the wonderful garden there and what a kind person Ann was. I regret I only remained in touch through Christmas cards, and briefly at her dad’s funeral. Thoughts and prayers to her family.

  3. Alan, Jeff, Melanie, and family…..
My sincere sympathy to you at the passing of Ann. I knew her through her years as a TJ Connor parent. Always a champion of her children, eager to volunteer for all.
May your cherished memories bring you joy as well as comfort.

  4. Alan, Jeff, and Mel
I was saddened to hear of Ann’s death. I was so fortunate to have met and worked with her as Jeff and Mel traveled through their school years at Wheatland Chili.
my memories of her are vivid. She always was calm, curious, and always brought a sense of peacefulness to all the a conversations and activities that we were able to share during those years.
My thoughts are with all of you find your path in grieving but also celebrating her legacy
