Livonia, NY: At age 83, Mary passed on January 14, 2023 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was born on October 9, 1939 to the late John and Edna McCarthy. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Reginald “Reggie” Lynn Jr. Survived by daughter Joanne Neu and son Christopher Lynn; grandchildren, Christopher (Val) Lynn, Killian (Caroline) Neu, Devlynn (Bel Welgan) Neu, along with several great-grandchildren, good neighbors, and friends.
Mary was married to Reggie for 64 years before his passing in 2021. In years past she was active with 4H and the Cub Scouts. She worked at the Livonia School District and later worked and retired from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in Avon where she worked as a secretary in the fisheries division.
Mary and Reggie enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and spending time at their second home in McAllen, Texas. Their home in Livonia was well taken care of and was a standout having beautiful flower and rock gardens. She enjoyed quilting and taking care of her cat, Mac. Mary loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call on Friday, January 20th, from 10am-12noon at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, where funeral services will be held at 12noon, following calling hours. Graveside services and burial will be held privately at Lakeview Cemetery, Groveland, NY. My heart aches and we have no words to express your loss. She was our dental patient in N.Progreso for decades. I will miss her dearly, especially that lovely laugh that I enjoyed every winter in South Texas and speaking with her at NY home.
We hope her children & grandchildren find comfort through her kindness, thoughtful loving care. Exceptional human being.

I’m so sorry to hear about Mary. I met her at Lazy Palms here in TX. She always had a beautiful smile to share with all. She and I shared emails after she left here after she saw one of my painting. She spoke of Reggie and his painting fondly. Prayers to all of the family.
We will miss seeing mary on her weekly produce runs to j & a We are very lucky to get to know her ! Always Such a positive and delightful person
To All of Mary’s Family, Wishing you peace to bring you comfort and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. Mary was a beautiful lady, always happy and smiling. We looked forward to her and your dad’s trips to Cape Breton. Many happy memories were made at our family cabin in Georges River whether it be time spent on the boat, sitting over coffee and having a chat to walks down the cabin road. She spent time with all, both young and old. Mary shared recipes, picked blackberries with us and our children, sewed up my daughter’s favourite stuffed bunny and always took time to listen. We cherish our fond memories of her.

.Mary was a wonderful woman and a great friend and neighbor at Lazy Palms R V Park. I was so blessed to work with Mary at our Bake Sale. Mary and Reg were a unique and wonderful couple and they are together again..

So sorry to hear of Mary’s passing. She was a true gem. We were blessed to be their neighbors in Texas, for a few years. Seemed like she and I would be awake at about the same time in the middle of the night. Can’t begin to remember all the World’s problems, we tried to solve in the wee hours of the morning messaging times we shared. The only consoling thought now, is that she is no longer in pain. I have a one fun fact (and sweet memory) to share with everyone viewing these comments.
I’m old enough to remember the excitement of Mary joining our family! At least excitement for our family…not so much for Mary’s!!
Reg and Mary carried out a very brave plan, as teenagers, once they decided they were ready to get married!
The Lynn family had a huge family reunion at Niagara Falls that included all Lynn members from Canada and the United States! This was a wonderful full day of reuniting with our distant relatives from Ontario and maybe Montreal (don’t remember). Well, rumor had it (to my Mum and Dad) that Mary’s folks were not keen on the idea, so she and Reggie didn’t join us. So we thought! Mary’s parents, on the other hand, were left thinking she was safe away with the Lynn gathering at the Falls!!
This scheme left Mary and Reg approximately 12 hours to make their get-away South to the Carolina’s, where Mary, at 16, was legally allowed to marry!! And get married they did!! Then the newly married couple turned around and immediately drove back North…to “Face the Music”!!!
This had the town of Livonia in a buzz for weeks!!
Not so much for Mary’s folks!! Being devout Catholics, and the Lynn’s Methodists, this could NOT be happening! (Believe it, or not, this was a BIG deal back in the 50’s!) Our Minister (at the time) was Rev Don Hauser, a close and dear friend of our family, stepped in (as a mediator of sorts)! The final solution, even with Mary so young, was a 2nd small wedding ceremony at the Catholic Church in Livonia, with both families in attendance.
After a few years Reggie actually became a favorite son (in-law) to Mr and Mrs McCarthy!
What can I say…TRUE LOVE wins out!! They all lived “happily ever after” for many, many years!!”
I’m SO very sad that they’re both gone, but so very glad they’re once again united! They were truly MEANT to be Forever Together.
Sorry to hear my dear friend Mary has departed this earth. She will be with Reggie whom she loved dearly. Rest in peace my friend.
