Springwater/Livonia: At age 74, Brian William West passed peacefully on November 30, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by his mother Betty (O’Brien) West and his brother Michael Francis West. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra “Sandy” (Johnson) West and children; Brian C. (Wendy) West of Springwater, Phillip (Elizabeth) West of Springwater, and Tara (John) Harnish of Pittsford; grandchildren, Jackson, Cole, Juliette, David, John, and Mary Elizabeth West; father, Francis West; siblings, Daniel (Karen) West, Frank (Wendy) West, Barbara West Jones, and Colleen (Earl) Hay; sisters in law, Susan West, Melba Johnson and Iva Johnson; a brother in law David Johnson. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends; including a very special uncle, AJ Johnston.
Brian attended Livonia Central School and in January 1964 enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Brian served with his Brothers in Arms during two tours in Vietnam. During this time, he was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star with Combat Valor and commendations too numerous to list. One of Brian’s duties for the Marine Corps was training narcotics detection dogs. He once met President Richard Nixon and gave a demonstration of his dog training skills for the President. Brian was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1972. On August 14, 1971 he married Sandra Johnson and together they raised three children and celebrated 50 years of marriage together. Brian was employed for decades as a security guard at General Motors (Rochester Products.) Brian cared about his community and served as a town councilman for the town of Springwater in the 1980’s. Brian was known in the Webster Crossing community as a gracious host of BBQ’s, card parties and horseshoe parties. Brian was always ready to help anyone in need and often did so without any fanfare or recognition. Brian was an avid outdoorsman. He loved mowing lawns and mowed for many people in the Springwater community. Brian loved hunting and fishing and in his retirement passed on this love to his grandson’s Jackson and Cole; who as children went fishing with him and then out to McDonalds for lunch. Brian took great joy in all his grandchildren in his retirement years and they seemed to all bring out the joy in him.

Dad – I still can’t believe you are no longer here. The last time we talked, I promised I’d bring you you’re favorite Spanish rice. I am so sorry I never had a chance to do that. There are so many things I had left to say or do with you. I’m proud of you, Dad! We are just learning about all the awards you received while serving your country. I wish I could’ve told you that while you were alive. But most of all, I love you unconditionally. I will forever carry you in my heart. Until we meet again….
We are very sorry for the loss of Brian. Brian and I attended Livonia School and the Marine Corps. Another Vietnam Veteran gone too soon! RIP Mr. West you tour is now complete.
