Eileen M. O’Brien – Stokes ~ May 20, 2021

Bonita Springs, FL/Conesus Lake: On Thursday May 20, 2021 Eileen Mary O’Brien – Stokes, 77 years old, took her last breath within this world, surrounded by those she loved. She has now begun her eternal life where the Lord has called her home.
Eileen Mary O’Brien-Stokes was born on September 17 in Rochester, New York to the late William and Alberta O’Brien. She was raised among six children in Rochester and graduated from Our Lady of Mercy high school. Eileen attended Brockport College and for a period of time taught grade school. She soon became very busy raising and unconditionally loving her three children. She would later join the Department of Social Services in Canandaigua, New York and eventually retire form there as the Director of Office for the Aging.

Eileen was married to her soul mate, David, for more than 30 years. They shared a love and a passion for life like no other. They traveled many places together, shared a delicious meal, and were always visiting the local movie theatre for the latest feature. They doted over one another each and every day and remained fully committed to their beautiful marriage.

David and Eileen moved to Florida nearly 20 years ago and continued the quest of building relationships with different people and joining community activities and organizations. Eileen belonged and ran several book clubs, would oversee her “Knit Wits” knitting group, helped organize a monthly Euchre Club gathering and could always be found at her local communities’ “Ladies Night Out.” She made many friends and her loyalty to those she loved will forever be missed.

Eileen is predeceased by her step-daughter; Sheryl A. Stokes and by her sister; Margaret Jacobs. Eileen is survived by her one true love, David, and her three fiercely independent children: Analisa Dominic (Kevin Bailey); Kevin Dominic (Beth); Jennifer Dominick (Jim); Jeffrey Stokes (Lin). The most precious of those she has left behind are her eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is also survived by three amazing sisters Sharon Griffith (Cliff); Susan Radcliff (Mike), and Mary Ellen (Terri) Lee.

Friends and family are invited to call from 3PM to 6PM on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, 21 Big Tree Street in Livonia, NY. A Memorial Mass will take place at 11AM on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at St. Matthew’s Church, 6591 Richmond Mills Rd in Livonia, NY. Interment will take place privately at Oakwood Cemetery in Penfield, NY. To share a memory or a condolence, please visit: www.doughertyfuneralhome.com

Eileen was an avid reader and was always willing to share a good book with anyone she met. Her philosophy was that a good book never remains idle on a shelf. In lieu of flowers, take a moment and share a good book with someone you know. Continue to pass that book on in Eileen’s memory. It would definitely make her smile.

  1. Eileen was an exceptional person. A wonderful caring and smart woman who
was an asset to our book and Euchre club. She will be missed .

  2. So sorry for the loss of my kind and caring friend. Always enjoyed ladies night out with Eileen.

  3. I worked with Eileen at the Ontario County Office for the Aging. She left and married David and moved to Florida. Over the last few years, I am sad to say we did not see each other much at all. A couple of years ago when Eileen was in the area I met her in Geneva and we had lunch at the Ramada on the Lake. I remember it to be a lovely afternoon. I am sure everyone who knows Eileen and loves her will miss her very very much. I remember fondly our days in Book Club here in Canandaigua. I send my sympathy to David and her entre family. God Bless Eileen and rest in Peace.

  4. Eileen was the “across the hall” dorm mate at Brockport, rooming with a fun and feisty Gerry Lindkamp–(who passed last November) — I remember Eileen being so happy and spirited–Just loved the both of them. Unfortunately different lives and paths diverge and we lose track of one another–but Eileen obviously left a mark and happy memories.
My sympathy and thoughts to the family

  6. David and Family, I’d like to send my sincere sympathy to all of you. My prayers and thoughts will be with you during these difficult times of adjustment. I know what a wonderful person Eileen was and how much she will be missed by all.
I hope David remembers me as I always spent time talking with him and playing with their dog when he would bring his vehicle in for service work at a dealership
    in Canandaigua NY.
    God Bless
