Leicester: At age 62, Bill passed unexpectedly on December 4, 2020. He was born on February 19, 1958 in Rochester, NY to the late Edward and Verline (Green) Jones. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by his sister Debra Jones. Survived by his children; Josh (D’Marie) Jones of North Carolina and Brigid (Kevin) Barnes of Rochester; grandchildren, Alexander, Dominick, Kayleigh, Tyler, Alexis, and Jackson; sister Linda (Frank) Rheaume; nephews, Zachary (Lindsey) Rheaume and Noah Rheaume, and countless close friends.
“Big Bill” started working as a mechanic at a young age. His large stature and epic beard made it easy for him to work for many years in security. When he wasn’t helping a friend fix or build a car, Big Bill enjoyed drag racing, riding his motorcycle and, more recently, building wooden benches and building desks for his granddaughters. If you were lucky enough to cross paths with Big Bill you would know he had a heart as big as he was. Being a friend of Bill’s meant being a friend for life, no matter how long you went without seeing or speaking to each other. Big Bill left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, December 19th, from 2-4pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, NY. No formal funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 370 7th Avenue, Suite 1802, New York, NY 10001 or Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306. Bill,
You were one of the nicest, “all around gentle giant soles” I ever met. I always enjoyed talking with you and listening about your cars and security events. Gone way too soon…Rest in Peace.
To all of Bill’s Family….I am truly sorry for your loss. My condolences. Sending Many hugs. Linda Bauer
So sad when I heard Big Bill had passed away! I did security with him and he was a great man with a big heart a teddy bear. I knew I could always depend on him and he had my back! Rest in piece Bill!
I met Bill fresh out of school at Bill Gordon Chevrolet. I was “wet behind the ears” as he would constantly remind me. He was the guy that instantly befriended me. We built my first racecar in my driveway, went hunting together and went to several Indy 500s while I chased my racing dreams. We managed to stay in contact for 37 years. That’s because Bill is a friend for life. He loved his kids and grandkids dearly and it was his greatest joy in life. I last saw Bill in 2014 at the Indy 500 with Josh. He was the same “Big Bill” I knew and loved and was happy we all were there together. We lost him way too soon. It hurts to think I won’t hear his voice again. Rest in Peace my friend.
I was lucky to know and work and learn from Bill. Bill was an awesome man and friend. Thank you Bill for the wonderful memories, you will be greatly missed
Nobody could have ever asked for a better friend than Bill. He was truly the definition of “salt of the earth”. Bill was loved by everyone for good reason. He was kind, caring and compassionate and would give a complete stranger the shirt off his back if they needed it. He was always there to lift you up when you were down (physically or emotionally). When all of our tears go away, all of our fond memories of Bill will remain with us for eternity. We all will miss you brother, but we will see you on the other side !
