Teresa Kingston Coyne – April 8, 2020

AVON – Teresa Kingston Coyne, 81 years, of Avon died Wednesday, April 8, 2020, at her home. She was born in Geneseo, NY, on May 2, 1938, the daughter of Walter and Regina (Powers) Kingston.

Teresa leaves behind her four children and their families: Son Peter and his wife Lisa, grandchildren Brian, Rachel, William, wife Jennifer and Teresa’s great-grandson Bentley; Daughter Katie and husband Grant, grandchildren Wyatt, Maureen, and Teresa’s great-granddaughter Adelaide, Kelly and husband Tyler;  Daughter Joan and husband Doug; Son John and wife Shannon, grandchildren Sara Kate, Elizabeth and Edward.  She is further survived by two sisters, Ceil (Paul) Becker and Carol (Gerald) Coyne, as well as brother George (Mary Jo) Kingston.  Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ted and Dorothy Coyne, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Tom, parents Walter and Regina, siblings Mary Jean, Helen Pat, Walter, and Catherine, and several in-laws.

Teresa spent her entire life in the Genesee Valley, growing up just outside Geneseo and spending her adult life in Avon. The trip between the two towns along the east side of the valley was always cherished. Letchworth State Park and the Monastery held special places in her heart. Raised on her family’s farm, the youngest girl in a family of 10, she learned the value of hard work, service, and respect for the animals and the land. In 1958, Teresa married Tom Coyne. Throughout her marriage to Tom she worked in partnership with him on the farm and in their auction business. She was gifted at feeding both kids and calves and became an expert at writing ads and cashiering sales for Tom’s auction business. Following his passing, she was honored to work at Noblehurst Farms and Wegmans. She was a longtime member of the Livingston County Holstein Club and a 4-H leader. Saint Agnes Church, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and the news of the day were essential in her life.

Teresa’s family would like to thank all of her nieces, nephews, and nurses who cared for Teresa in her final years.

The family and friends of Teresa K. Coyne are invited to celebrate her life at a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 10am at St. Agnes Church with Father Mike Fowler officiating.  Interment will follow at the St. Agnes Cemetery. 1. Great High School memories. We were cheer leaders. GO TEAM! Prayers for the family.

  2. I worked with Teresa many years back at Wegmans Geneseo.
She was a sweet, dear friend who always had caring and concern
When we talked about life’s ups and downs. And I always seemed to
make her laugh before our conversation ended. I’ll always remember
her smile and her laugh. Not Goodbye, just see you later Teresa!!!

  3. So very sorry for your loss. I was one of nurses who cared for Theresa, and really enjoyed visiting with her. She will be missed!

  4. We went through school together and were cheerleaders for GHS. Blessings to your family.

  5. Dear Peter, Katie, Joan, and John,
So sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. I spoke to Dad this morning and he told me he talked to Peter yesterday. Peter, thank you for taking the time to give Dad a call. He really enjoyed talking to you. He also told me Teresa died 25 years to the day after Tom. What a thing. I always remember your mom and dad on 12/27 on their anniversary. Theirs was the second wedding I ever attended and the first I can remember because I have no recollection of my Grandmother’s wedding to Sam Ferris when I was 4. I was 2 weeks shy of 9 years old and 12/27/58 was always easy to remember because of its proximity to Christmas. I’m sorry you can’t have a timely service to honor your Mother but these are difficult times for all of us. Linda and I are doing well. Jake and family are also ding fine. They have 3 kids, Jansen (15), Noah (12) and Riley (9). I hope you are all doing well and I would very much like to see any of you if you are ever near Boston. Northern New England is a great place to visit in the summertime, particularly Maine, so plan a trip and give us a call.
    Best wishes,
    Bob
