Ronald L. Hallinen “Ron” – January 13, 2020

Lakeville:  At age 80, Ron passed peacefully on January 13, 2020.  Predeceased by his parents Leo and Mildred Hallinen.  Survived by his loving wife of 55 years Jane (DeSio) Hallinen and children; Patrick (Jennifer) Hallinen of Minneola, FL, Katherine (Chad) Newman of Avon, and Kelly (Peter) Haugh of Fairport; grandchildren, Abigail Hall, Evelyn Hall, Olivia Newman, Matthew Haugh and Trevor Haugh; siblings, Donna (Robert) Waide of Geneseo and Gary Hallinen (Philip Bénier) of Irondequoit.  Also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Ron was born in 1939 in Rochester, NY and graduated from Franklin High School in 1957. He then went on to the University of Rochester, earned a Bachelor’s Degree, and then on to Syracuse University with a Master’s in Social work. Ron started his Social Work Career at Craig Developmental center in Sonyea, NY and went on to be director of Mental Health Services in Genesee County. He finished his career as Health Services Director in Otsego County Oneonta, NY.  He loved his grandchildren and was an avid fan of Syracuse athletics and the Buffalo Bills.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 16th, from 3-6pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, NY. People are encouraged to wear Syracuse or Buffalo Bills attire. Ron’s Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Friday, January 17th, at St. Martin de Porres Parish St. Mary’s Church, 99 Main Street, Scottsville, NY.  Interment will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Livingston County, 34 E.     I heard tonight from Kevin and Sandy about Ron’s passing. I am so sorry for your loss and I hope your memories will give you strength during this difficult time. The times I spent with your family while I was married to Doug Geier, Ron was always a big part of the fun and many laughs at the picnics. My sincere condolences. Sue Faber

    I just read of Ron’s passing today as I was on vacation, not keeping up with reading news and FB. You two were the couple who always modeled what a good marriage was all about, one centered in love and a shared faith. So very saddened for the loss you are experiencing, missing his presence daily. My heartfelt condolences to you, your children and grandchildren. May all those cherished memories of Ron be a comfort to you. Hugging you from afar in AZ.

  3. Jane….Ron was a colleague of long and happy memory. His death came as a surprise and because I skipped reading the paper for a couple of days, I missed the notice. Be assured that you and the family will be a part of my daily Mass intentions. Phil Yawman

  5. We are in Florida and so sorry to see that Ron has passed from this life. We have fond memories of our times in Mt. Morris and our families at church and all those functions together with our children. We also enjoyed seeing you, Janie, and Ron

  14. There are no words that can express our sorrow for his beautiful family. We share so many wonderful memories with them of their wonderful husband, dad, n grandfather.
