Livonia: Harmon R. Wingate, 91 years, of Big Tree St. Livonia, died suddenly Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester from injuries sustained in a fall at his home. He was born in Livonia, at the family farm house, January 3, 1919, the son of Roy and Ethel Trescott Wingate. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary Murphy Wingate, his brother and business partner, Merle P. Wingate, also infant siblings, Karl, Earl and Floyd Wingate. A life long resident of Livonia, he was employed on the family farm in his early years, and then he and brother Merle established Wingate Sand and Gravel, which operated from 1954-1984 when they ceased operations due to government regulatory issues. Harm, in later years, continued on with the work ethic instilled in him as a young man, including repairing tractors, cutting wood, and being actively involved with the Hemlock Fair, among other community projects. He also served in the Livonia Fire Department for 70 years and at one time was the Fire Chief. He was a charter shareholder of Lakeville, Avon, & Livonia Railroad and until 2 years ago, served on their Board of Directors for several terms. Harm also was a long time member of the Conesus Lake Sportsman’s Club where he remained active until his death.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Shirley Wingate of Livonia & Gordon and June Wingate of Livonia. Several nieces and nephews.
