Lorna was the daughter of Charles and Ella Mae (Dodson) Fairbanks of Pavilion, NY. She graduated from the Rochester Dental Dispensary in 1935 and started working in LeRoy in Dr. Ed Murry’s dental office where she learned a great deal, including surgical procedures. She then accepted a job as the dental hygienist in the Dansville school system, dividing her time as a dental hygiene teacher between Dansville and Wayland. When that position was eliminated she went to the Livonia school system to take up the same position for the next seven years until she retired from the school system. She finished her career working part-time at a dental office in Dansville.
After retiring, Lorna volunteered for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed socializing, playing golf and playing bridge with her many friends. She also was an avid Scrabble player to the end. A strong and caring woman, Lorna was always a champion for children, pushing them to strive for a good education, as her father wanted for his children. She was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dansville where she sang in the choir for many years. She said if she had her life to live over, she would spend it singing. She had a lovely voice that we will greatly miss. Her motto was “never give up, just rest awhile “.

So saddened and sorry for the loss of your mom and grandmother. She was one of the last connections to my years in Dansville schools. I so enjoyed talking to her at Morgan Estates where she ate at the table next to my own mother. Morgan Estates said good bye to two Dansville icons in a short time span. Rest In Peace Lorna after a long, fruitful life.
I was privileged to get to know Lorna during her years living in Mi. We enjoyed many Scrabble games and swims in the Kerby pool. She enjoyed swimming even into her nineties. She had a wonderful disposition and was appreciated by her many friends at Meadowlark. What a strong, resolute woman she was!
I am so saddened and sorry to hear of your loss. She made trips to the dental hygienist fun; she was always kind and nice to us! Glad for her long life and how often you could spend time with your mom.
What an absolutlely wonderful aunt. She was like a second mom. An absolutely wonderful life. Bob Taber and Ann Searls
I’m sorry to hear of Lorna’s passing. What a wonderful woman she was . It was a pleasure to work for her at Morgan’s Estate , she sure loved her ice cream. Thoughts and prayers to her family.
She was a wonderful encouraging person! She was a great hygienist we looked forward to going to see her at school. She was patient and helped to teach you how to care for your teeth. She was a great church friend as well! Glad she had such a good long life and kept her mind clear all thru her time here! God bless her family with perfect peace that she is now held in the loving arms of God!
She was as good a person as I ever knew.
