Conesus Lake/Geneseo: December 23, 2014 at age 83. Predeceased by his wife Margaret, parents Martin and Helen, brothers Paul and Jim, and sisters Marian and Virginia. He is survived by his daughter Margie (Robert) DeLena, brother Francis (Loraine), sisters Doris Miles, Eileen (Gene Cimino) King, Beatrice Robinson and Barbara Frey. Dick served in the US Army during the Korean War and retired in 1986 as a Major in the Rochester Police Department.

Margie, I am so sorry. It is so hard to lose a parent. Both your parents meant so much to our family. We are all blessed to have known such great people. There is not a Thanksgiving that I don’t think of them both. We have wonderful memories. My deepest sympathy to you. Rest in Peace Uncle Dick.
I am very sorry for your loss. Dick was a great guy and I enjoyed knowing and working with him over the years. I am so sorry that we can not be with you at this time as we are now helping out a family member in Florida. Our best to you.
We had the pleasure of meeting this remarkable gentleman and Margaret, his wife, as fledgling horse owners. Dick and Margaret took us under their wings and introduced us to many memorable events and moments while teaching us about all matters equine. Dick was a man with endless ideas and the ability to bring them to fruition. His wonderful stories never ceased to entertain. A gentleman and leader seldom encountered. We were so fortunate to know Dick and Margaret and spend great times with them and their many friends at Elm Hill Farm. Our deepest sympathy to Margie and family.

I had the privilege working from him when he was a Captain and Commanding Officer of the Special Criminal Investigation Section. Terrific boss, learned a lot and he prepared me for future challenges in policing. On several occasions I heard then Chief Tom Hastings express his total confidence in Capt. Pfuntner’s leadership. Naturally, these continued upon his promotion to Major and the Patrol Division Commander. I remember a couple officer involved shootings during his tenure as Major and witnessed how supportive he was to those involved – very compassionate man/boss. I happened to see him when he was in the hospital – quite by accident – and shared my grateful appreciation for the lessons learned from him – and he was as humble as ever. It was an honor to have that occasion and I will never it – nor him. Outstanding person – as was his wife Margaret – also retired from the RPD (Investigator). He served his country and his community with integrity. God bless.
