Stephen C. Whitacre – August 26, 2022

Geneseo, NY:  At age 78, Steve passed peacefully at his home on August 26, 2022.  He was born on July 3, 1944 to the late Charles and Lorraine (Hatch) Whitacre.  In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Dianne (Bartholomew) Whitacre, son David Hanna, and brother Michael Whitacre.  Survived by his son Daniel Hanna of Geneseo; siblings, Rosemary (Secil) Brown of New Haven, James (Cindy) Gavens of Florida, and Mary (Michael) Arellano of Illinois; and sister-in-law Donna (Alfred “Tim”) Cole Jr. of Avon.  Steve is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many other extended family and friends.

Steve graduated from Palmyra-Macedon High School and later went to work at General Motors in Rochester, NY.  He retired from GM in 1993 and led a busy life with his family and hobbies.  He was a member of the band Double Trouble during the 1970’s and into the 1990’s playing the cordovox accordion.  He also loved horses and harness racing, antique auctions, furniture repairs, and was in a bowling league. 

Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 22nd, from 5-8pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Livonia, NY where Steve’s Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Friday, September 23rd.  Interment will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to GraceLife Church, 275 East Main Street, Avon, NY 14414.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com
