I did not personally know her but I’ve had the pleasure of working with her husband for the past 9 years. So sorry for the family’s loss
Janet was a very good friend and a wonderful teacher. Her love of literature was evident in her teaching and making these stories come alive. Old Man in The Sea, Of Mice and Men, The Sniper, Luke Baldwins Vow, The Outsiders, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, MacBeth, and many many more. If you were fortunate to have her for a teacher you have a great memory of some of these stories. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends as we all learn to live without her by keeping our memories of her alive. Love you and miss you so much.
Tim, Mary, Rob, and Anna,
My deepest sympathy to all of you. I will always remember hanging around with Janet during our rebellious teenage years. We said we were going to try and get together after talking at her dad’s wake. I am sad we never had the chance to do that. Thoughts and prayers for your family.

I am truly saddened by the news. Mrs. Swisher was my favorite teacher while I was in Mt. Morris School. I was in middle school while there and have since grown up and become a published author. She was a part of my journey to being an author and I will never forget her. Thank you for everything Mrs. Swisher! I am truly grateful for everything you did for me, and taught me! Fly free, and may your family find comfort in the fact that you touched so many lives and will live on in their memories!
Like everyone else has stated here, Mrs. Swisher was an amazing woman and an amazing teacher. During my time in HS I always enjoyed going to English class because I knew that with Mrs. Swisher anything could happen. I remember one day close to Halloween, everyone was in costumes and we somehow convinced her to put a football helmet on and grab a pumpkin she had in her room and do the “heisman”. I couldn’t believe the news when I heard of her passing. I know she will be missed by everyone that had ever had the pleasure of meeting her.
So sorry for the loss of Mrs. Swisher. She was my English teacher in high school. Always a very nice lady. May she Rest In Peace. Prayers and thoughts for her family.
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Janet’s passing. I always enjoyed visiting and working with Janet. She was an outstanding educator and friend to many. She will be sorely missed. My condolences to her family and friends. RIP Janet.
Swish was one of those teachers that you will never forget. I loved her humor and tenacity. She was a teacher who you knew she taught because it was her passion and not just a job. She pushed and challenged her students. I am so saddened by this news and I am so sorry for her family’s great loss. She was truly a remarkable person. May you rest in peace, Swish.
We so enjoyed working with Janet and were devastated to hear this news. Tim, you and your family are in our thoughts and we send love your way to see you through this difficult time.

Truly few people have challenged the minds and changed the life trajectory of as many students as you, Swish. Thank you for reaffirming my love of stories and storytelling at a time when I needed it most. Thank you for taking the time to check in on my well-being when I was in a bad way. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me and my peers.

Janet was a dear friend and great mentor to me in my earliest years as a teacher. Her kindness, tone and great sense of humor are unforgettable. I have quoted her many times throughout the years. My deepest sympathy for Tim and her family. Heaven just gained an angel. Rest well, my friend.
So sad… Janet had a sense of humor that made me chuckle countless times while working at MMCS. Her students adored her. She will be missed by so many. Rest In Peace Janet.
I was a student at MMCS and although English was not my favorite class, Mrs. Swisher’s class did make a positive impression on me. I found that the reading assignments she gave such as “The Old man and the Sea”, sparked my love for Steinbeck and London, a love that I still carry with me today. I’m grateful to her for not taking the guff that my teenage self-doled out and holding me accountable. Finding Mrs. Swisher on Facebook a few years ago and being able to apologize for my past behavior is something I’m grateful God has allowed me to do. Thank you for lending her out to us at MMCS, she made a positive mark on all of us. I pray that God provides Mrs. Swisher’s family and friends with his comfort in this hour. RIP Mrs. Swisher.
