Phillip C. Kyle “Phil” ~ June 2, 2023


Livonia, NY: At age 69, Phil passed peacefully on June 2, 2023 at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY. Phil was predeceased by his mother Nancy (Backus) Vonglis and father Phillip Kyle. Survived by his son Phillip & Emily Kyle of Livonia and grandchildren; Ransom and Ronan Kyle, many cousins and friends.

Phil was a man never defined by material possessions, but rather the love and loyalty he held for his friends and family. A skilled carpenter and hard worker, he took the greatest pride in his grandsons, Ransom and Ronan, who were among his most cherished joys in life. Above all else, he was a lifelong friend and devoted family man, whose unwavering love and sacrifices will be always remembered.

Family and friends may call on Friday, June 9th, from 4pm-6pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, NY.  Following the calling hours, all are welcome for a Celebration of Life Gathering at the Kyle Family Home in Livonia. No formal funeral services will be held and Interment will take place privately.

  2. Phil was my handy man for years and could repair or construct anything. Such a wonderful man with a great sense of humor. As all of his friends are saying, he will be sadly missed. I’m sure he’s already got some work projects started in Heaven right now. RIP , Phil

  4. I loved Phil back in our school days! I always remember that he really went into action so fast when the ref said: “READY? WRESTLE!”
    Like him, I played center on the Livonia football team – but I was 2nd string – and Phil was first!

Watching you tie up competitors in wrestling events, you were tough and very good, at family gatherings with your mom Nancy , aunt Beverly and the rest of the Backus Clan. Taking me spearing late at night when ice was out on Conesus Lake and Gary was working. You lived your life on your terms! You are missed! Condolences to the whole family

  11. I don’t know where to start. Phil was one of a kind. He broke his arm in wrestling practice so John went to see him and in backing out of his driveway ran over Phil’s dog. Of course John was devastated but Phil got quite a charge out of it and never forgot it. Phil has always been so kind and so respectful to me. I am so truly saddened by his death. God Bless you buddy. Hopefully you can throw a few wrestling holds up there

  12. RIP Phil, we had a lot of fun times growing up in South Livonia and to do this day I remember you telling me that you would always be nine days older than me. Deepest condolences to the family.

  16. Phil worked at the University of Rochester with me. He was the best carpenter completing many projects in my department. He was one of a kind. RIP Phil.
