Carol A. Corcoran ~ January 6, 2022

Avon / Geneseo: At age 83, Carol passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 6, 2022 with her family by her side at Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. She was born in Canandaigua, NY to the late Walter and Anne Hoerger. Carol is predeceased by her beloved husband James J. Corcoran and her brother; Chris Hoerger. Survived by her children; Cathy (Stephen) Raynor, and Jim (Rebecah) Corcoran along with her grandchildren; Ryan Corcoran, Kendall Corcoran and Danielle Raynor.

Carol was raised in Cortland, NY, attending St. Mary’s Catholic School until her family moved to Groton when she was in high school. It was at Groton High where she met her future husband, Jim. The smart cheerleader & athlete shared a love of lake life & spent summers on Owasco Lake at the Corcoran family cottage with friends & extended family. Carol was educated at Lemoyne College in Syracuse & went on to teach junior high English. Carol & Jim’s marriage in 1964 was followed by the birth of their daughter, Cathy, and eventually they settled in Avon & welcomed their son, Jim. Carol’s career transitioned to homemaker as her husband took over ownership & operation of Avon Farm Equipment. Carol excelled at motherhood & devoted her life to raising her children, especially encouraging the love of swimming & fishing on Conesus Lake. Her greatest joy, however, was being an involved & loving grandmother to Ryan, Kendall & Danielle, attending every event she could, even in later years, virtually. Carol made great friends at Morgan Estates in Geneseo the last 6 years of her life. She maintained a very active social life and expressed her love of past & current staff, who respected her independence & became a 2nd family.

  1. Thinking of Carol’s family! She was such a sweet lady who always was so kind to us at LWARC.

  2. I was one of Mrs. Corcoran’s junior high English students. Mrs. Corcoran – wielder of the feared red pen! She suggested that I become a journalist, an idea that I dismissed since I absolutely hated writing. But 30 years later, I became a technical writer – something that I think she would have found amusing. Some teachers remain in your memories and Mrs. Corcoran was one of those for me. I have thought of her many, many times over the years – always with affection – and am happy to read that she enjoyed many years relaxing with her family. My condolences to all who knew and loved her.
