James E. Simpson – September 17, 2021

Livonia:  At age 85, Jim passed peacefully on Friday, September 17, 2021.  He was born on February 22, 1936, in Rochester, NY to the late Glenn and Margaret (Clark) Simpson.  Survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Rita (Tubbs) Simpson and sons;  Larry (Patty) Simpson, Tom (Kim) Simpson, Dave (Betsy) Simpson, and Don (Cheryl) Simpson; grandchildren, Zach, Madison, Jordan (Gina), Tori, Tyler, Cooper, Matt, Molly, Jack, Trevor, Dan, Bailey, and Chandler; sister Lois Myers. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Jim Simpson grew up in Lima before serving in the U.S. army, stationed in Berlin Germany where he married his high school sweetheart Rita.   Jim and Rita purchased a farm, built a home raising 4 sons who brought 13 grandchildren into the family. Jim graduated from the RIT School of Business while working for Rochester Telephone company and raising children.     In addition to his regular job, Jim owned apartment buildings in Lima, Avon & Hemlock as well as farmed and became a ski instructor during retirement.   Jim led by example and showed the world the importance of love, hard work, and to always stay humble and kind.

Family and friends may call on Tuesday, September 21st, from 4-7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Livonia, NY.  Jim’s Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Wednesday, September 22nd, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6591 Richmond Mills Road, Rte 20A, Livonia, NY.  Burial, with military honors, will be held privately at St. Rose Cemetery, Lima, NY.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J.   4. Rita and family so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He was such a good guy and a life long friend to Dad. Dad often said he was the brother he never had. I can’t help but think they are together again. There have been many great memories with your family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

  15. Mrs. Simpson, my heart is aching hearing of Mr Simpson’s passing. He was always so nice to sit and talk to. You two together were always something I dreamed of having.
