William H. Woodruff “Woody” – March 9, 2020

Lakeville:  March 9, 2020 at age 81.  Woody was born on August 14, 1938 in Rochester, NY to the late Theodore and Grace (Tanner) Woodruff.  Predeceased by son Scott in 2014 and daughter Michelle in 2019.  Survived by his wife of 25 years Laura Woodruff; daughter Cheryl (Steve) Baker of Rochester and son Thomas Newcomb (Lois Baker) of Hornell; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and his beloved pets Muffin Man and Mitsy.

Woody attended Livonia Central School District and later joined the US Navy from 1956-1962.  He served as a Boilerman Petty Officer 2nd class on the USS Cony and the USS Kidd.  After his time in the Navy he returned to Lakeville, NY and for many years was a roofer for several contracting companies.  The most recent was Finger Lakes Roofing in Fishers, NY.

Updated Arrangements:  Family and friends may call on Saturday, September 12th, from 2-4pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Livonia, NY where a Memorial Service will be held at 4pm, following calling hours.  Interment will be held privately.  Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Livonia Ambulance, PO Box 8, Livonia, NY 14487.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

  3. Laura, so sorry to hear this news. Bill was a good neighbor for 40 years and a delight to talk to. Hopefully he will run into Doug up there and they can continue their friendship.

  4. Prayers sent to family and friends. Woody used to work at Agway Petroleum in Hemlock. We became friends during those times. When his second little girl was born he asked if I would mind if they named her after me. He was big hearted and had a sense of humour you had to love. We haven’t seen him in many years but still remember his kindness. God bless.

  5. My sincere condolences to the Woodruff family. I had a lot of fun working with Bill back in the 70’s at Conesus lake Marine n sport.

  6. I am so sorry for your loss. Woody used to work with us at Conesus Lake Marine and Sports when I was a teenager. He was always friendly and helpful and always had a smile on his face. RIP Woody.
