Ed Sparks Jr. “Uncle Brat” “Boss Man” – December 1, 2019

Livonia:  Ed passed peacefully at his home in Livonia, NY on December 1, 2019 surrounded by loving family and friends.  Predeceased by his mother Marie Sparks, sister Rhea Sparks, and special friend T.J. Peck.  He is survived by his father Ed Sparks Sr. of Conesus, brother Rob (Trish) Sparks of Livonia, nephews Joshua Sparks (Alana Blakemore) and Brenden (Morgan) Sparks, and his great-niece, who he loved to spend time with, Ryland Sparks.  Ed is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, his EMS family, and his canine sidekick Athena.

Ed Sparks served as the Director of Operations of the Livonia Ambulance for over 10 years, he was not only the Director of Operations, he was a great man who dedicated his life to the squad, and the community that it serves. He became an EMT and over several years worked his way up through the EMS levels of care achieving his Paramedic in August of 2012. Through out Ed’s career in EMS he has helped countless individuals and personally had saved many lives. In the “quiet” time of serving the community, Ed enjoyed spending time with his Great Dane, sidekick Athena, having late night dinners at the bay with his family and friends, or relaxing at home watching Law and Order SVU.

  1. Ed was a great friend and family to many. I may not be here today without him. He quite literally saved my life once. You will he greatly missed. Rest easy.

  2. Eddie was truly a special human being. I was in the back of his ambulance a few times thruout my life and I always calmed once I saw his face. He also was there when my daughter had a seizure and when she twisted her ankle. Eddie was also a lifelong neighbor of my family and we were his customers at his shop thruout my childhood. Absolutely a devastating loss to the community and every person whose lives he touched. We will miss you so much Eddie.

  3. We met Ed when he worked at the station on the corner, he worked on my car until the place closed. Later, he would end up saving my daughter’s life on more than a few occasions. He was the kindest, most caring, honest man. He had a heart of gold. What a wonderful man and how lucky we were to know him. He made the world a brighter place. It will be a darker place without him. Rest easy Ed, you are loved and will be sorely missed. My heart is broken.

  4. Without Ed’s dedication to EMS I would not be here today. During a difficult time with my health he was always there when I needed him. A true professional. The Livonia community will miss his skill and kindness.

  5. So my kid finds me not doing well physically in my yard and calls 911. Sirens echo coming south on 15. Trisha and DP (I think) show up first, then Ed in the fly car. Trisha takes charge, telling me to sit. Relax. I protest and say I’m not dying. Trisha is firm in her instructions while Ed hooks up the standard heart monitor. Rob and the boys show up as the Sparks always do when people need help. Trisha is still dealing with Cantankerous Tim. I say to Eddie “I’m not dying, right?”. He looked at the monitor and spoke the only word he said the whole visit: “Nope”. He patted Rob, grabbed his goodies and left me in the good hands of the others. Wether working EMS or cars Ed was always cool as a cucumber. Fine man from a darn fine family that you just can’t say a mean word about. He leaves a legacy of kindness and professionalism. I hope his example encourages others to consider joining EMS.

  6. Having Ed walk through your doorway on an ambulance call made you feel like a true professional was there to help. A one-of-a-kind man devoted to his called duties to help others. Now he is in the care of angels. He will be sorely missed by all that know him. So sorry for his loss, but he paved the road for all of his fellow EMT’s. My sincere sympathies to Ed’s family and friends.

  7. There are entirely too many memories to touch on…for you I will forever be grateful. You were an amazing man Eddie. I find peace knowing that you and T.J. have one another again. Thank you for always believing in me and loving all of us, even at our worst. Rest easy my dear friend.

  8. Ed was a very nice kind man. He was great at putting people at ease. When he was on a call to my Mother’s house he truly made her calm down and listen to him, not something many could do with her. We were grateful for his help. Rest In Peace friend. You did a Great service to our community. We will forever feel this loss.

  9. So sorry to hear about Ed’s passing. He was a great guy! Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

It has been many years since we last saw each other but feel the class of 57 had the best group. My condolences to you and your family. Lynn (masterson) Barbera.

  11. I have not see Ed since highschool, but anytime we lose someone from our young days affects a part of all of us. Proud of Ed for what he did in his life! May the family be at peace during this hard time.

  12. I have a lot of memories with Ed and Robbie I belonged to the Springwater Fire Department back in the late 80s and early 90s when Eddie and Robbie belonged to Conesus Fire Department. We did a lot of hanging out at Long Point Park. I remember when Ed used to work at tge gas station on the corner in Livonia. Ed was a great man and a great mentor. RIP my friend. James Wagner

  13. He was one of a kind. He was always there for everyone but never asked anything for himself. Whether at the gas station, driving the ambulance or the medic, Ed always greeted you with a smile and a wink. Knowing Ed on the personal side gave me the pride of saying he was my friend. We walked many walks through happiness and sorrow, but he was always the strong one through it all. Your walk and watch is complete, time for you to rest in peace – until we meet again, God Bless and keep you my friend. With much love. Fly high with all the others!

  14. Worked many calls with Ed involving critically sick and injured patients. It was always a reassurance to have him arrive to assist in patient management. He was a very dedicated EMS provider, mentor to so many, motivator to his crews, and friend. Ed you will be missed, but we will take it from here. Thank you for all you have done!

  15. Still in disbelief. Ed was truly great human being! You have always been there for our family. You were a true blessing during a stressful situation. It was a comfort to see your face when a medical emergency arose. You were more than just a medic to this community … you were a true friend. I always use to joke with him that I would rather see him at the Vet with Athena then in his professional capacity, he agreed. Ed forever left his mark on this community and we are blessed for it. RIP Friend.

  16. Ed will be greatly missed by our community. Dedicated to assist customers with honest, straightforward repair services and compassionate, professional medical assistance. Always with that friendly trademark smile. RIP Ed.

  23. Many trips to areas hospitals with this dedicated man at the wheel. Great sense of humor. Watching Ed “evolve” from drive then to enter into the medic side was a blessing. Livonia has lost a great man. Condolences to all of his family and friends but also our community. Rest well.

  24. I am sad to hear of Ed’s passing. For many years Ed’s took care of my cars at his garage in Livonia (before him Gary Patterson did). Eddie was a friendly professional honest guy and I considered him a friend. To all his family please accept our condolences and prayers.

The former things (will) have passed away.”(Rev. 21:3,4) May this promise give you comfort now and a real hope for the future. My deepest sympathies.
