  7. John was the greatest cousin and friend anyone could ever ask to have. All my memories of him are only of a very sweet kid, mellow soul and loyal buddy. It was a pleasure to grow up with him and share the most amazing grandparents. We had the best of times playing and roaming in what seemed like the endless acres of Livonia. Uncle John and Aunt Robbyn, thank you for bringing him into this world for us to get to enjoy. Jenifer, you were a great sister to him. His time was cut short and for that I am deeply saddened for your loss. Rest In Peace John

This was hard news to receive. I did not know John that well, but I remember how polite and respectful he was whenever I would see him before he relocated to Colorado.
The Haak and Brennan families go way back and these memories make this loss so much more difficult. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Bob and I are so sad to hear of John’s passing. Our hearts are heavy, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

  16. Fred and I went to high school with John. While he wasn’t in my immediate circle of friends, he accepted me and was always kind to me. This is says a lot- because it seemed only a handful of people could really see past someone’s label (jock, artsy, brainy, etc) and be a friend to all. From reading these comments, I see I’m not the only one who saw his kind heart. Much love to the friends and family he left behind.

  17. Some people called him Roy, some John John, I called him Johnny Haak. Whether you know him since he was a child or just in the past few years it was special. Johnny was a beautiful person and will be missed. Prayers for you Jen. May your memories of him bring you confort. God bless Johnny.

  18. Was shocked to hear about Johnny. He spent a great deal of time at my house with my sons, Jamie and Jason. Always had a smile on his face and called me Mr D. My heart goes out to Robbyn and John.
    Rest in peace Johnny -five.

  19. So very sorry and saddened to hear of John John’s, as I remember calling him, passing. He was about the same age as Fred when he died. How much sadness the Haak family has experienced! There are never words that can make that pain go away so I can only say I am so sorry. God bless your family.

  20. Johnny was one of the best kids I’ve ever known. He’d give you the coat off his back, and walk you home if you needed it. He was in my wedding, and until just before he left for CO there wasn’t a time I can remember where he wasn’t around. He was truly one of the best friends a person can have. I’m heartbroken and SO angered by his loss… He will never be forgotten.

  21. My sincere condolences to John, Robbyn and the Haak Family. God Bless You John David

  29. Phares and I are so saddened by the loss of such a caring young man. I have held in my heart how compassionate he was when he realized what John and I were going through as he worked on our roof. A memory that will be with me always. It was a joy to watch him grow up next door, from making forts in the brush to introducing his new puppy to working on our home repairs. John was always so polite and caring and will be sadly missed. Our hearts go out to you. May God bless and comfort each of you. Hugs and love, Pat and Phares.

  30. I never met this young man but the Haak family has always held a place in my heart. I am so sad for you, John and Robbyn, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  31. John was a good guy. Haven’t seen him since we graduated but good memories of him. We played football together, had classes together, and graduated together. Rest in piece John. Sorry to the family!

  32. Dear John, Robyn and Jen,
There are no words that can adequately express the sadness I feel in my heart on learning of John’s passing. When teachers look back at students they will always remember, John (and you, too Jen) hold a special place in my memories. Underneath that sometimes tough exterior, I found in John a sensitive, caring heart with a great sense of humor and a winning smile. I recognized in him the talents, intelligence, and ability to succeed, especially when he put his mind to it. He often had interesting perspectives on history and politics which he always was willing to share in class!
Please know that we mourn John’s loss with you and will be keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. May you find strength and peace in the gift he was to you and many others.
    God Bless.
    Mary Jo and David Dussault

  41. This makes me so sad. John was in my first class when I returned to teach in Livonia and that US History class is very memorable. John and I had so many laughs and great conversations in the classroom, on the football field, and anytime we saw each other since. He always showed me the greatest respect and the feeling was mutual. John was a great guy. I will always cherish those memories…
My sympathies to the Haak/Sparks families; may your memories of John bring you some comfort.

  42. My sincerest condolences to all of John’s family. I have numerous fond memories, growing up close with John, and all of us terrorizing our neighborhood! We had many sleepovers, football games, building forts, swimming ant our house and just being kids. His loss is felt tremendously. Rest in Peace brother, May He hold you in the palm of His hand.

  43. So many memories are rushing through my mind. Backyard bonfires is just one, John was always there, one of my extended kids. Your sense of humor always made me smile. You have always been in my heart. Until we meet again. Luv you Mama Woody

  44. On behalf of the Hangar family of Colorado, we offer our condolences to the Haak family. We will remember John as a kind and caring person with a golden heart and he will be missed immensely. May he rest in peace, and may God comfort the loved ones he left behind.
