William F. Fugle “Bill” – March 16, 2024

Conesus, NY: At age 80, Bill passed peacefully at his home on March 16, 2024. He was born on January 3, 1944 in Rochester, NY to the late Francis “Red” and Rosemary (Schmuck) Fugle. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by infant sons; William Francis Fugle Jr. and Randolph Scott Fugle. Survived by his wife of 61 and a half years, Leila (Curtis) Fugle and children; Donna (Tim) Lockwood of Conesus, Bill (Lynnea) Fugle of Livonia, and Jason (Julie) Fugle of Livonia; grandchildren, Andrew (Stephanie) Fugle of West Virginia, Austyn Fugle, and Logan Fugle both of Livonia; great-granddaughter Amelia Tehoke.  Also survived by his twelve siblings: Gloria Herring, Gail White, Roger (Norma) Fugle, Gary (John) Fugle, Roxanne (John) Johnston, Kirk (Theresa) Fugle, Larry (Karin) Fugle, Christine (Anthony) Coniglio, Jean (Fred) Yates, Judith (Jack) Benedict, Jeffery (Eileen) Fugle.  He was predeceased by his brothers Ron and Steve Fugle.  Also survived by sisters-in-law Tracey Fugle and Betty (Ron) Sawdey; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Bill was likely the first person you’d see as you walked through the door at Fugle’s Auto Parts. You’d find him at his usual spot at the front counter, greeting you with his warm, genuine smile that would light up a room. He enjoyed meeting and talking with customers, friends and acquaintances, often sharing a joke and trading laughter which came so easily to him. Fugle’s was established in 1958. Bill worked at the family business for the past 66 years as a co-owner. At 80 years old he still looked forward to getting up and going to work each day, continuing to work 4 days a week. He was proud to have his two sons Bill and Jason work side by side with him every day.

Working in the auto parts industry only fueled his passion for cars and trucks. Some of his all-time favorites included his ‘55 Mustang, a ‘64 Ford Fairlane, his yellow Ford wrecker and his plum purple hearse with the 8 track tape deck. He loved listening to the good old country music of Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams and many more.

Bill worked hard and played hard, enjoying working at his home property with tractors, backhoes, bulldozers and 4 wheelers. He appreciated the sounds of powerful engines and the rumble of horsepower beneath his feet. Watching his grandson, Austyn, race at both Perry and Canandaigua was a favorite past-time for many years. He enjoyed buying and selling junked cars, using his saw mill, cutting up fire-wood, mowing his property and being out in the great outdoors. He took pride in building his home on property previously owned by his grandfather.

He volunteered for 40 years with the Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Livonia NY. He cared for others in life as well as in death. He provided comfort and compassion to others during times of loss. He had such a giving heart, always willing to help others in any way he could.

Bill more than anything cherished home and family. His wife, children, their spouses, grandchildren and a great grandchild. He was always ready with words of wisdom, encouragement, and humor to help his family achieve their goals and dreams and to live their best lives. He loved deeply and had a heart of gold.

He enjoyed the love of faithful pets in his lifetime and had an especially soft spot for dogs and cats, they brought him comfort and joy and always gave him a reason to laugh and smile even while hospitalized.

He made friends wherever he went. He would strike up a conversation with you, friend or stranger and before you knew it you would be sharing a laugh, trading a joke or story. He had the biggest belly laugh and would literally laugh out loud with pure happiness. It was an amazing sound that will be cherished by those lucky enough to have experienced it. Smiles and laughter just came so easily for him and he loved to make others laugh along with him. He never wanted tears or sadness especially in his final days, he wanted his life to be celebrated. And so we shall.

Family and friends may call on Friday, March 22nd , from 6-8pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, NY. Burial will be held privately. Frank was proud of his large extended family and was the self-proclaimed “Patriarch of the West Family.” His Italian heritage was very important to him, and he was deeply moved when his son, Frank, took Betty and him to Italy to visit his father’s birthplace in Passopisciaro, Sicily. While there, they saw where his grandmother Antonina “Anna” Vasta operated her cigar shop before emigrating to the United States.

Frank used to say he was born and grew up in Livonia Center “in back of St. Mike’s.” A lifetime Catholic, he was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church until it closed on June 6, 1982, and he subsequently became a member of St. Matthew Faith Community. In recent years, Frank was not able to attend Mass in person, but he faithfully watched it on television every Sunday and prayed regularly for his family, friends, and community.

In addition to his love for the church, Frank possessed a strong work ethic. He started working on the family farm in South Lima as a boy, then helped his father run the Commercial Hotel in Livonia. After leaving the Hotel, he was employed at Rochester Products, a division of General Motors, where he advanced from Screw Machine Operator to General Plant Manager of the Lexington Road location. Not only did he work hard to support his family, but he taught his children the importance of diligence, excellence, and loyalty. For example, he only drove GM cars and insisted his family follow suit.

Frank had a passion for hunting, fishing, the Yankees and the Buffalo Bills and enjoyed sharing these pastimes with friends and family. One of his favorite sayings was, “you don’t have to be hungry to eat,” and he relished cooking and eating a variety of wild game and Italian dishes. John Robert “Bob” Hoover ~ March 6, 2024

Honeoye: John Robert “Bob” Hoover passed away suddenly on March 6, 2024, at the age of 81.  Born in Montour Falls, NY; he was predeceased by his parents; Florence & John Hoover and his stepmother, Clara Hoover. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Merrily; son, Brent (Mary Karen), daughters, Shannon (Andrew), and Krista; grandchildren, AJ, Allen, Natalie, Aidan, Paige, Danielle, Wyley Robert, Isabel, Mabel and Clara; brother, Norman Hoover and sister-in-law, Heather (Bruce) Armstrong, nieces (Kelley and Kristy) and nephews (Mark and Mike); as well as a loving extended family and many dear friends.

He gave his life to service, adventure, and family. As a boy growing up in Montour Falls, he raced boats on Seneca Lake and developed a love for fast cars, fishing, and hunting. One of his favorite stories to tell was of skipping school on May Day in his adolescence, forgoing dancing around the maypole to go fishing with his best friend Bob “Sully” Sullivan. Friends marveled at the height, at which he hung his tree stand, as it was legendary. His love of hunting and fishing was only surpassed by his love for his family.

He met the love of his life in his senior year at SUNY Cortland where he earned his Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in Education. He went on to attend Aviation Officer Candidate School to achieve his Commission in the United States Navy and designation as a Naval Aviator.  Merrily and Bob were married in July of 1966 and Bob departed for Vietnam shortly thereafter, where he flew as a Naval Flight Officer and survived 87 combat missions.  His letters home always expressed his love for his parents and his young wife, whom he could not wait to see again.

Upon returning from Vietnam he and Merrily moved back to the Rochester area to begin his next career. He continued his service as a beloved educator in West Irondequoit Central School District for 25 years where he developed lifelong friendships. Bob retired after 28 years in education as the Assistant Superintendent of Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District. Retirement included a continued connection to education as a consultant and more time for family, hunting, fishing, boating, skiing, and travel. Throughout his life, former students would recognize him as he made his way through life, and with great smiles on their faces, tell him how he had influenced their lives in his teaching. It was impossible not to feel his sincere interest and curiosity for all those he encountered. From the homeless of Washington DC to his four-year-old granddaughter and her love of mermaids.

He dedicated nearly 27 years of service to Bristol Mountain Ski Patrol which fed his love of service and the outdoors. He was all smiles as he watched his children teaching their children how to maneuver those boards this past February. He loved his family with a passion and was never shy to relish in his wife, his children, and later, his grandchildren and their accomplishments. From learning to read to learning to fly.

He had a dream of giving all Veterans an opportunity to experience life and healing after the tragedies of war, and worked to create OASIS Adaptive Sport (Outdoor Adventures for Sacrifice in Service) an organization for Veterans and Service Members to enjoy the outdoors through skiing, sailing, fly fishing, horseback riding, hockey, and archery, just as he so did. He gave selflessly and with great compassion.

Bob enjoyed his meals with his family most of all. Thanksgiving was his favorite. Enjoyment started the night before as he broke bread for stuffing, smelled pies baking, and swelled with anticipation for the family to gather at the table. He was the last to finish, savoring every bit of those moments. He will be missed and those who knew him know we have lost one of the good ones. He led by example and his legacy endures in the lives he has touched. Most assuredly, by the love of his life and partner of 57 years, Merrily.

Family and friends are invited to share in the celebration of Bob’s life on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 11 AM – 1 PM at Kevin W. Bradley S. Shellenbarger – March 3, 2024

Livonia, NY:  Brad was born on May 8, 1970 in Twin Falls, Idaho and passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family, at age 53, on March 3, 2024 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.  He was predeceased by his brother Christopher “Todd” Shellenbarger.  Survived by his beloved daughters, Sydney, Sara, and Alissa Shellenbarger; his wife Shellie (Schultz) Shellenbarger;  his mother Eileen Shellenbarger, father Gary Shellenbarger, and siblings, Kimberlee Shellenbarger (Sam Ferris) and Gary (Cheryl) Shellenbarger Jr.  Brad is also survived by his sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and an endless amount of friends.  His brotherhood at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office was his second family, first and foremost through thick or thin Larry Kennedy, Brent Mistretta, Matt Templeton and Mike Malone.

Brad was an amazing father to his girls as they described him so beautifully in the message below:

Dad, you were the most amazing father we could have ever asked for. No amount of time with you would’ve been enough. Your ability to make us laugh and mend our hearts will be a trait we will forever carry on. You showed us how to love and care for those around us. You were there for us no matter what, you always knew how to just be there. You gave us time to say goodbye and that’s all we could’ve asked for. You can rest now and enjoy everyone who’s been waiting on you up there. Make some cookies with Grandma Mary Lee at Christmas, spend all the lost time with your brother Todd, and drink your heart out with all your friends that have been waiting for you. We will see you again when the time is right and we know you’ll be watching over us every step of the way. You were a best friend to many but most importantly a best and first friend to us three. Rest now, we will be okay. We love you with every part of us. We love you dad.

The true meaning of the family isn’t just blood. Brad was a brother and a friend to so many and the first to lend a hand in a time of need.  His best friend Larry Kennedy described him as giving, loyal to a fault, generous, funny, humble and most dependable man he knew. Brad loved his family and his girls came first and there was no changing that. He was banned from power tools except the weed eater and lawn mower but we all know about that.  He may be gone but it is guaranteed he will not be forgotten.

At Brad’s request no formal funeral services will be held because he didn’t want I’m sorry’s or tears, but rather a gathering to celebrate him to comfort his girls and family.  A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, March 9th, from 2pm – 8pm at the Lakeville Fireman’s Training Grounds, 5939 Stone Hill Road, Lakeville, NY.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Livonia Ambulance, PO Box 8, Livonia, NY 14487 or the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 10 Office Park Way Suite 500, Pittsford, NY 14534.  To send a condolence or share a memory please visit:  www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com

Robert L. Booher – February 18, 2024

Greece/Lima: At age 86 surrounded by family, Robert Leonard Booher passed away peacefully on February 18th at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Joanna (Gregory)Collins, South Lima NY, after a battle with cancer. Robert was born on March 5, 1937, in Rochester, NY to Avon NY residents Claire Leonard Booher and Cornelia Bernice MacArthur. He is predeceased by his parents, first wife Jane Vanderhoof, sister and brother-in-law Lynda (Craig) Porter, and niece Kymberly Porter. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Booher, children, Cynthia (Robert) Little, and Joanna (Gregory) Collins, stepchildren, Robert (Tracey) Cawlfield, and John (Emily) Allen. Grandchildren, Matthew (Chandra) Ladelpha, Katelynn Ladelpha, Cory (Leigha) Collins, Christopher (Megan) Collins, Ethan (Meghan) Collins, Spencer Collins, step-grandchildren, Carlos Sierras, Christina Sierras, Colin Cawlfield, Cam Cawlfield. Great grandchildren, Madilyn Ladelpha, Sadie Lynn Ladelpha, River-Lyn Collins, Jeremiah Sierras, Ricardo Sierras, and Elena Sierras, niece Karen Porter, nephew Mark (Rose) Porter, and children Joshua, Lori and Jennifer.

Parents, Claire and Cornelia (aka Nene) Booher welcomed their firstborn with great celebration. Five years later they welcomed Bob’s little sister, Lynda, to the family. He attended and graduated from Livonia Central School District. He graduated from Colgate University in 1959, where he was chosen to sing and travel with the University’s illustrious Colgate 13. He attended Colgate Rochester Divinity School in 1962 and was ordained as a Presbyterian Minister the same year and was called to Christ Presbyterian Church in Rochester.

He married his first wife Jane Vanderhoof in 1962 welcoming daughters Cynthia and Joanna in due course while he started four neighborhood associations as a specialized ministry. He was very active in the Civil Rights Movement and worked for the equality of all human beings regardless of race, creed, and skin color. His passion led him to attend a large gathering in Washington D.C. where he heard Martin Luther King give his ‘I Have a Dream speech’. An account he loved telling his grandchildren about!

In 1974 his family joined the Ecumenical Institute/Institute of Cultural Affairs where he worked internationally for 10 years helping communities improve their lives through planning and implementing programs.  In 1983 Bob returned to the Rochester Area to start his consulting firm, PMA Associates of the Genesee Valley, Inc. working with over forty area organizations. In 1984 he married Sarah (Cawlfield, Kiser) Allen. They settled in Livonia, along with Sarah’s sons Robert Cawlfield and John Allen. He continued his work developing programs as Executive Director of Livingston County Coalition of Churches promoting and supporting the development of new programs such as food pantries, local prison family visitation, and most importantly to him, the establishment of Teresa House in Geneseo, a beautiful hospice home that continues to help families navigate through difficult times. At the same time, he served several long-term interim Pastor positions with rural Presbyterian congregations officially retiring from Ministry in 2002.

Through Sarah Bob discovered his love of all things equestrian later in life. In 1990 he and Sarah bought a farm in Livonia and twelve years later a farm in West Sparta. For 29 years he enjoyed being a very hard-working gentleman farmer. He rode and raised horses, loved his tractor and dogs, Ginger and Cadbury, so much, and watched his crops, horses, and Koi fish grow from his back porch. He and Sarah were active in the Genesee Valley Riding and Driving Club and Genesee Valley Hunt.  Bob could be found manning the swinging gate at the Genesee Valley Hunt Trials every year, often recruiting available grandsons to help him. In West Sparta, his tomato plants grew to enormous heights with a mound of horse dung as fertilizer. We would laugh at his methods, but the tomatoes were delicious.

In 2019, due to health issues, Bob and Sarah gave up their horse farm and moved to an independent living apartment at The Village at Unity in Greece NY.  Just before his passing Bob and Sarah celebrated forty years of their marriage.

In keeping with Robert’s wishes, no formal funeral services will take place at this time. To share a memory or a condolence, please visit: www.doughertyfuneralhomes.com  Memorial gifts may be given to Teresa House 21 Highland Road, Geneseo, NY. 14454
