Avon: Tragically on August 4, 2018 at age 66. Predeceased by his parents Charlie & Marion Moran. Survived by his loving partner of over 20 years Connie Ryan and children; Traci (Dominick) D’Alessandro of Deer Park, NY, Kathryn “Katie” (Chad) Smith of Livonia, Matthew (Danielle) Moran of Avon, Peter “Rock” (Rebecca) Ryan of Avon, and Jessica (Adam) Soucy of Avon; grandchildren, Gianna, Joseph, and Michael D’Alessandro, Aidan and Jack Smith, Christopher, Connor, and Emma Moran, Jack and Owen Johnston, and Finnegan Soucy; siblings, Patty Moran of Lima, Molly (Paul) Korndoerfer of Conesus Lake, and Liz (John) Prinzi of CO; also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Tom will be so missed by everyone that knew him including their beloved dogs, Hunter and Izzy.

Tom was a 42-year Member of the Avon Lions Club, serving twice as its President, and being so honored by his peers as a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest recognition afforded any Member. He embodied the Club’s “We Serve” mantra, unselfishly giving of his time and talent at the Club’s Barbeque fundraisers, Children’s Halloween Party or Easter Egg Hunt, Medical Loan Closet for Senior Citizens, Sports night recognizing High School Athletes, collecting used eye glasses for recycling, Speech and Hearing Clinics held in area schools, and Patriot Project decorating US Flags along the streets of Avon. His enthusiasm was infectious, as was his easy-going good nature and constant smile.

Tom’s record of service includes Avon Community Cares, Avon Food Pantry, Avon Little League, Avon Sports Boosters, and Avon “Welcome Home” Project. In business, he expanded Duffy’s Irish Pub and relocated it to the historic Erie Depot Railroad Station, a site where his Great Grandfather began his Livery business. Ever proud to be Irish, Tom represented Avon as he led the Duffy’s float & crew in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. T-Mo was a long standing member of the Livingston Country Club where he was a past board member and also won many golf tournaments. Recently he had his first hole in one.

Tom was a dedicated employee of the Village of Avon Public Works Department for over 40 years, taking on increasing roles of responsibilities throughout his career. He was the first Plant Manager for Avon’s multi-million dollar Water Filtration Plant. For eight years into his retirement, he continued his service with part-time work in support of the water department. He was a highly respected coworker, mentor, and a beloved friend to everyone with whom he worked. In his retirement, Tom remained active in helping those Senior citizens still living on their own in his beloved hometown, checking on their safety and welfare during sever weather events, and providing mowing and plowing service to many. Known to his friends as “T”, he had trouble saying “no”.

Friends may call on Wednesday, August 8th, from 4-7pm and Thursday, August 9th, from 4-7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, NY. 1. Tom was one of the first people I got to know when I lived in Avon (from 1984-2004). We worked BINGO together for St. Agnes School. He embodied the aspirational values of the community: a friendly smile, a giving heart, and a kind word always. God bless you Tom.

  2. Matt and Family – We are so sorry for your loss. It’s not an easy time but hopefully knowing you have friends who care is of some comfort to you.

  11. What a great kid to grow up with. He excelled in every sport he played. He was always the life of the party. He was truly a wonderful person. My prayers to his family and friends.

  12. As I responded to John Barrett’s Facebook post about Tom the other day, I did not run into Tom often, but every time I saw him, he always had a smile on his face, even when he was doing occasional post-retirement work for the Village. He was a truly great man and an obvious bonus to have as part of the Avon community. I can’t imagine anyone in Avon who will be missed more than Tom.

  13. I had the pleasure of getting to know Tom over the past 4 years through Lions and cannot remember a time he did not have a smile on his face. Prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time.

  14. “His enthusiasm was infectious, as was his easy-going good nature and constant smile.” Yes, I think that sums it up for me. But I also have memories as a boy when I was about 10 years old. “T” would have been about 13 years old. He grew up on the farm. So jumping into the back of a pickup truck or onto a hay wagon and riding up to the dairy barn to milk the cows was rather routine for him. For me it was an adventure and sometimes a little scary. Nothing was ever said that I remember, but I think he sensed my apprehension and kept an eye on me.
Tom was a great cousin and I will miss him.

  15. I was fortunate to have played basketball with Big T for 4 years. While he played briefly for RIT we guarded each other when Clarkson visited in 1971. Coach Cook and Mr. Fusco came to that game. What a great player and teammate. My daughter Emily got to know him too. She said, “He always treated us fairly. We really miss him.” So do I.

  16. We are so sad to hear about Tom’s death. We reach out in love to his family.

  17. My cousin, ‘T’ had many talents, he had a vision to make his community a better place, he always reached out to those in need, he could repair anything, he treated everyone with the same dignity. He wore his big Irish smile every day. He loved his grandchildren so much.
Reminds one of a big teddy bear with a huge heart and personality. A very humble man yet the ‘life of the party’! Our sympathy and love to the entire Moran clan. It is an honor to be a part of your lives.

  18. So very sorry to hear this tragic news. Sending prayers to Connie and all the family. T Moran was a name we all wanted to have to cheer when I was a cheerleader. He was a kind and gentle man who knew how to connect with people. So sorry for your loss.
