Avon: Peacefully at home on December 12, 2017 at age 88. Predeceased by his parents Orris Sr. & Alice Staples and his sisters Lillian Staples & Marion Pike. Survived by his wife of 68 years Arvilla (Cook) Staples and children; Duane (Jackie) Staples of Avon, Barbara (Bob) Burns of Alabama, and Rob (Chris) Staples of Fairport; grandchildren, Julie Staples-Peterson, Jennifer Boor, and Brad (Dionne) Staples; great-grandchildren; Connor, Noah, and Avery Boor, Morgan and Lillian Peterson, Aurora (Connor) McVey, Justin (Andrea) Gibson, and Josh Gibson; great-great grandchildren Rhett McVey and Gavin Gibson. Also survived by his sister Marjorie (Bob) Stanton and several nieces & nephews.
Orris was born on March 9, 1929 in Elmira Heights, NY to parents Orris Sr. & Alice (Cheesman) Staples. . He married his wife Arvilla on July 16, 1949 and they were longtime residents of Avon, NY. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of East Avon for 67 years, a past member of the Avon Fire Department, and was a founding member of the Avon Bowmen Club. Orris was a loving, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Company, where he worked for 37 years, and was an avid hunter and sportsman all his life.
Friends may call on Sunday, December 17th, from 2-5pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 20A, Livonia, NY. His Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 18th, at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church, 5605 E. Avon Lima Road, Avon, NY 14414 (4 corners in East Avon.) Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
