Leicester: September 30, 2016 at age 65 years. Predeceased by her son Christopher VanBuskirk and mother AnnaMay (Riggs) LaVoie. Survived by her husband of 22 years Carl M. VanBuskirk and children; Charles (Brenda Grimes) Farruggia IV of York, Joey (BillieJo Thompson) Farruggia of Retsof, and Jennifer (Devon) Saltsman of York. Grandchildren; Evan & AJ Farruggia, Dylan & Kaylee Farruggia, Brady & Dakota VanBuskirk, and Paige Saltsman. Also survived by her father Joseph LaVoie and siblings; Jane (Stan) Fry, Joseph (Jane) LaVoie, David (Cherlyn) LaVoie, Christine Reichert, and Clifford (Susanna) LaVoie. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Marie was born on July 15, 1951 in Geneva, NY to parents Joseph and AnnaMay LaVoie. She attended DeSales High School where she graduated from in 1969. She married Carl M. VanBuskirk in 1994 and they resided in Leicester, NY for many years. Marie retired from the Livingston County Department of Social Services, where she worked as a case worker. After retirement she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, trips to the casino, fishing, boating, playing euchre, and her cottage.

A Funeral Mass to Celebrate her Life will be held on Thursday, October 13th, at 11am at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church, 2770 Retsof Road, Piffard, NY 14533. Following Marie’s Funeral Mass a gathering will be held at A-On-Do-Wa-Nuh Sportsman’s Club, 4716 River Road, Leicester, NY 14481. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Wilmot Cancer Center, 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY 14642. To send a condolence and for further information please visit:

  8. Marie was a step mother to my children, Christopher and Jennifer. I couldn’t of asked for a better person to love my children than Marie. Marie was always gracious and we got along quite well. I will miss you Marie, I hope wherever you are, Chris is with you, and you are both happy, and pain free . I know Jennifer will miss you, and never forget the wonderful ” other mother ” you were.
