Schilling, Helen F. – January 6, 2009

Canandaigua/Conesus: Helen VanBrunt Schilling age 95 years died at the home of her daughter in Conesus, New York, January 6, 2009. She was formerly of Little Silver and Oceanport, New Jersey. For the past eight years Helen resided at the Quail Summit Senior Living Center in Canandaigua, New York. Helen was predeceased by her husbands Louis S. VanBrunt in 1962 and Lawrence J. Schilling in 1990.

She is survived by two daughters; Gwendolyn (Greg) Cole of Conesus, New York and Jacqueline (Jere) Rutberg of Covington, Georgia. Also survived by Grandsons; Jared (Jennifer) Rutberg and Jacob (Jessica) Rothfuss. Granddaughter Jennifer Rutberg. Also survived by two Great-grandchildren; Kyle and Conner Rutberg.

Helen was a graduate of Jersey City State College who later matriculated at the College of Education in Greeley, Colorado. Helen began her teaching career in 1935 at the Middletown Township teaching seventh grade where she was for twenty-three years. Helen then taught seventh grade English in Markham Place School, Little Silver, New Jersey for twenty-two years. Helen retired in 1982 after enjoying many years in education.

She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Little Silver, New Jersey. She belonged to the following organizations; National Education Association, New Jersey Retired Education Association, Monmouth County Retired Education Association, Adah Chapter #5 – Order of Eastern Star, Shrewsbury Senior Homesteaders, S.E.A.R.C.H. Auxiliary, and also served as President, Vice-President, and Recording Secretary for Red Bank Chapter of Doborah.
