Conesus Lake: Unexpectedly on April 16, 2016, at age 59 years, after a brief bout with cancer. Predeceased by her parents Wolodymyr and Olga Baran and siblings; Christine and Zenko Baran. Survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Tom; her brother Bohdan (Maureen) Baran of Rochester, her cousin Oksanna (Britt) Carpenter of Penfield, and her beloved dog Bella. Also survived by her mother-in-law Audrey Dasson, and several brothers & sisters-in-law and their families.

Helen was born on September 19, 1956 in Rochester. After graduation from Nazareth Academy in 1974, she went to work at RG&E, starting in the mail room and eventually moving to the Distribution Engineering Department. She attended night school to obtain a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1994 and then moved to the Engineering Standards group concentrating on underground construction standards. She resigned from RG&E in 2010 at the time her husband Tom (also an employee) retired, but was hired back in a part time consulting position where she worked until her passing.

Helen’s biggest passion was being outdoors with her dog and frequently with those of friends. She hiked daily, with as many as 4 dogs in tow for several miles. She was always happy to babysit dogs of friends and family. She and Tom have lived on Conesus Lake for 29 years, where they enjoyed swimming, kayaking, sailing and cruising in the powerboat (along with aforementioned dogs). She was an avid gardener, especially enjoying the spring planting season and not giving up on her plants until a hard frost. She enjoyed cooking, art and collecting seahorse and mushroom depictions.

Friends may call on Thursday, April 28th, from 5-7pm at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., Rte 15 & 20A, Livonia, where services will be held immediately following at 7pm. 1. To Tom and family –
Sincerely sorry to hear of your loss. I enjoyed working with Helen for a number of years at the RG&E. I can honestly say that Helen was one of the nicest people I have ever met. She will be missed by all.

  2. Shocked and saddened to learn of Helen’s passing. Helen’s sweet smile and her love for dogs will remain with me always.
Years ago I was on vacation in Maine; as I was crossing the street in Freeport, Maine there was Helen and her husband Tom. She gave me a big hug; we couldn’t believe that we ran into each other 600 miles from home.
My deepest sympathy & condolences to her family.
