Honeoye: November 22, 2015 at age 94 years. Predeceased by his wife Gloria in 2003. Survived by daughters; Victoria (Thomas) Vogt of VA, Deborah (Fay) Caskey of Bristol, and Peggi (Scott) Harris of Honeoye. 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.

Ken was born on July 26th, 1921 in Lima NY. His parents were farmers and he unloaded his first load of wheat when he was 5 years old and milked his first cow when he was seven. He went to a one room school house and had to walk about 5 miles to go to school. He and his brother had to milk the cows and feed the horses before they went to school. He really liked going to school but he missed 6 weeks in the Fall to get the crops in and 3 weeks in the Spring to plant them. In 1929, bread was 5 cents a loaf but times were very hard. Every year his Dad would give the man who owned the only grocery store in Hemlock 2 or 3 cows to pay for the groceries.

Ken married Gloria Sammis on July 28, 1944 and moved to Long Island which was where Gloria was raised. They were married for 59 years and had three daughters.

He worked until he was 84 years old. He worked as a millwright at Kodak and several other companies. His favorite hobbies were gardening, fishing, hunting and fixing anything in sight. Ken Werder was hard working, kind, well-loved and will be missed by many.

  1. I worked side by side with Kenny for many years at TWG Machine, What a guy, he will surely be missed. So sorry for your loss.

  2. I am so sorry to hear of Ken’s passing. He was a wonderful man who was always a hard worker. He is now with his love Gloria. I wish I had been in town. The Werder family was very special to me in my early years in Honeoye. My thoughts and parers are with all of you.

  3. Mr. Werder was a “Gentleman” in every sense of the word and his legacy is his wonderful family. A special man and truly a life well lived. May your memories help in the time ahead. All of us at the Livingston County CNR will mIss him and I especially will miss seeing his broad smile and twinkling eyes each weekend as he waited for his daughter to visit. My sympathy and thoughts are with you.

  4. I first met Mr. Werder when I worked for John Chrisman. What a sweet, sweet man he was. He always came in to the office with a smile and a kind word. I loved his smile. Now he smiles at the angels above.

  5. I had the privilege of working with Ken at Kodak Park, initially in the old Field Division #5 and later it became a part of Field Division Zone ‘D’. We initially worked in Silver Recovery and later in Synthetic Chemicals Division, supporting those divisions with machine maintenance and installations.
Ken was an excellent person as an individual and had great mechanical experience with all types of equipment. Kodak was like a large family as we all cared for each other and were always interested in each other’s outside family as well. We were there in the ‘Best of Times’!

  6. Not only were you all so blessed to have him in your life but also anyone who knew him. A man with a golden heart who married the woman with the golden shoes! He is a great example of how we should all live our lives. His warm smile and kind heart will go on forever.

  7. What a true gentleman Ken was.
May he RIP now reunited with Gloria.
My thoughts & prayers go out to all you.
