  1. My deepest condolences to Geraldine and the family. We have lost a true treasure. There are so many things I want to say and memories I want to share about this extraordinary teacher, Jack Deane. As one of his 4th grade students, he believed in me and advocated for me. Without going into too much detail, let me say he stepped up to the plate and made certain I was not being short-changed or wrongly labelled by the educational system. Jack Deane was an inspiration at a time in my life when I needed it the most, and for that, I will be eternally in his debt. He will be truly missed.

  2. There are so many of us in Bloomfield with fondest memories of Mr. Deane. He challenged, cajoled, coached and corrected us to be our very best. Even some 43 years later, I still remember his infamous “read the directions test,” with the multiparagraph directions including the line “under no circumstances are you to make any mark on this paper except to write your name in the space provided.” I was one of many who skipped the directions, wrote out my answers on the sheet, and thus failed the test. Lesson learned forever: Always read the directions. He was truly one of a kind. I am so sorry to hear about his Alzheimer’s diagnosis and his passing. God bless you all.

  3. Sincere sympathy to Geraldine and Jack’s family. I have many fond memories from teaching with Jack at Bloomfield Elementary School. A true gentleman who taught not only academics but life skills and self responsibility to his students. Always dressed professionally. I believe he loved teaching after having worked and served in many other businesses.
    God Bless.

  4. I had Mr. Deane in Elementary school. He was a great teacher. Sending love and prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time. Heaven has gained another angel.
