Cohocton: April 25, 2013 at age 89 years. Survived by his wife Freida M. Delio, Children; Lorraine (Richard) Weber of Cohocton, Mickie (Tom) Platten of Livonia, Stephen Delio of Corning, Mary Louise (Raymond) Bisig of Rochester, Joseph P. Born on March 6, 1924; Joseph “Joe” Delio, lived his early years on Wilcox St in Cohocton, N.Y. In his teens Joe left school behind to work for the Erie-Lackawana railroad. Joe said this was to help the family in tough times. Joe joined the military towards the end of WW II. He became a chef on a Merchant Marine vessel. After service he returned to the railroad. He also took a job part-time at Mc Connell Manufacturing in Prattsburg, N.Y. as a welder and at the Bath, N.Y. VA hospital. Joe eventually left the VA hospital and settled in a job at Foster Wheeler Energy in Dansville, N.Y. He continued to weld at McConnell Manufacturing and stayed at Foster Wheeler Energy until retiring. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. Joe was also a volunteer fireman and a member of the American Legion in Cohocton, N.Y. with over 50yrs of service. His retirement also included a hobby; where he traveled to Pennsyvania and all over western N.Y. to buy wholesale produce. He would then set up at the farmers markets, farm auctions and flea-markets locally to sell his produce. Joe loved spending time with the family; especially grand and great grand children. You could tell he was happiest when we’d get together for home cooked meals, conversation, and drinks (wine and sometimes hard cider that was homemade in his basement). He enjoyed life, liked people in general and got along with most. We’ll miss him being there, but we also know he had a rich and fulfilling life.
