George Richard “Dutch” Whiteman ~ January 30, 2013

imag0061-1Livonia: George Richard “Dutch” Whiteman of Livonia, January 30, 2013 at age 74 years. Predeceased by his wife Josephine R. Whiteman. Predeceased by his father Willard Whiteman, his mother Ruth Shull and brothers Edward, Frederick, and David Whiteman. Survived by his sisters; Josephine (Ron) Sylor and Dianne Schneider of Dansville. Step children; Oliver, Mary, Diane, Morris, and Eddie Cantu, Judy Campos, and Penny Williams. Several grandchildren and special friend Troy Ellis.

He was born in Sparta and grew up in Livonia graduating from Livonia Central in 1957. Immediately after graduation he entered the Army receiving his basic training at Ft. Dix, NJ as a medic attached to the 98th Infantry. He was released and served in the Army Reserves until 1964. During his time in the reserves he was employed by General Circuits in Rochester, NY as an Electronics Fabricator. His greatest pass-time was roller skating at Long Point and other local rinks. In the late 60’s he moved to Dallas, TX continuing his career, marrying his wife Josie, spending time traveling and enjoying his family. After his wife’s passing in 2002 he sold the family home and traveled extensively, visiting family and friends from Texas to North Carolina, New York and North Dakota. Always by his side was his faithful dog and traveling companion Buddy. He loved traveling across the South, gambling, dancing, fishing and enjoying the Nascar races. He was the life of the party.

Friends called Saturday, Februrary 2, 2013 from 10am-12noon at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 21 Big Tree Street, Rte 20A, Livonia, where services followed calling at 12 o’clock noon.   1. I remember you, cousin, from when I was little, along with your brothers and sisters. I remember being reunited years ago at the Whiteman reunion. I remember your smiling face and your laugh. If my sister and I would have known we would have been there for you and your family. My sympathy and condolences goes to your immediate family. May you rest in peace and the Lord be with you.

    Thanks for being a shining example for us to follow. I will never forget the guidance you provided and the love you showed for us. I am going to miss you and your laugh. My children are going to miss a great man. I pray that Jesus receive you as a good and faithful servant. Rest in Peace.
