Stuart Winfield Bush – March 22, 2009

Rochester/Mt. Morris: Stuart Winfield Bush, 94 years of Rochester, formerly of Mt. Morris, NY died Sunday March 22, 2009 at the Jewish Home of Rochester. He was born in Canadice, NY September 14, 1914, the son of Stuart and Alma Wheaton Bush. He is survived by children, Joanne (Don) Haefele, Stuart C. (Lowen) Bush. and Janis (Stan) McCormack; grandchildren, Elizabeth (George) Werthman, Peter (Jennifer Scanlon) Haefele, Robin (John) Meehan, Kaitlyn Bush, Jeffrey (Theresa) McCormack, Erin (Eric) Ludwig, and Evan McCormack. 3 great grandchildren.

Winfield was a 1937 graduate of the University of Michigan earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After participating in the R.O.T.C. program and as a member of the US Army Reserve, he was called to active duty in 1941 and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He sailed to England in 1943 on the Queen Mary and particpated in the planning of D-Day. His liberty ship landed at Utah Beach where he received multiple shrapnel wounds. He was involved in multiple combat operations in France, Belgium. and Germany. Upon his discharge from active service he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, US Army Reserve and was awarded a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Winfield returned home to Mt. Morris to join his father in farming and farm machinery sales and service. He was a member of the Mt. Morris Rotary Club, Mt. Morris Masonic Lodge, serving as Grand Master, the Mt. Morris Morris United Church, and also served as member and President of the Mt. Morris Central School Board. He was a talented pianist who played the classics into his 90’s and a devoted caregiver to his wife, Jane, during her last 3 years.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years. Jane and his parents, Stuart H. and Alma Bush.

Friends may call Friday April 3, 2009, from 12-2 PM at the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc. Routes 15 and 20A, 21 Big Tree St. Livonia, where funeral services will follow calling hours at 2 PM, with the Rev. Carin Farmer officiating. Burial, Mt. Morris Cemetery.
