Francis E. Fugle “Red” – May 13, 2016

RedFuglepic

South Livonia: Passed away May 13, 2016, at home surrounded by loving family members. Red was born on May 26, 1926 to parents Claude and Rena (Giltner) Fugle. Predeceased by his sons Steven and Ronald Fugle and son-in-law Harold Herring. Survived by his devoted wife of 73 years, Rosemary Fugle and their children; William (Leila) Fugle, Gloria Herring, Gail (James) White, Roger (Norma) Fugle, Gary (John) Fugle, Roxanne (John) Johnston, Kirk Fugle, Larry (Karin) Fugle, Christine (Anthony) Coniglio, Jean (Fred) Yates, Judith (Jack) Benedict, Jeffrey (Eileen) Fugle and daughters-in-law, Betty Sawdey and Tracey Fugle. Also survived by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.

Growing up, Red was always attracted to motor vehicles and boasted that by the time he was 14, he had owned 14 different cars or trucks. His love affair with automobiles turned into a career which began in high school when he worked at various service stations. A quick study, he became an expert in the field and in 1952 he opened Red’s Tydol Service in Springwater and in 1956 an Esso Station in Hemlock. In 1958 he relocated the business to South Livonia and began the transformation of the family farm to Fugle’s Inc., a leading family-owned-and-operated auto parts business.

Long-time friend and business colleague Bob McDonald, who previously owned Genesee Valley Garage in Geneseo, recalls Red as being collegial and down-to-earth. “Through the years, we worked closely together and helped each other out when we needed it,” McDonald remembered. Red was a hard-working guy. He started out with pretty much nothing and built a thriving business. It is a great success story.”

Red built his business on one driving principle — treating people the right way. “You treat people the way you want to be treated,” he would say. “It’s just doing the right thing.” Though proud of his business, Red would say his greatest achievement was his family. Today over 100 members count themselves fortunate enough to be a part of the Francis Fugle Family. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy and will be deeply missed by all.

At his request funeral services will be private. Interment at the convenience of the family at Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Livonia. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Livonia Ambulance, PO Box 8, Livonia, NY 14487. Arrangements entrusted to the Kevin W. Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., Livonia-Honeoye.
