Eugene T. “Gene” Gascon – April 30, 2010

Eugene T. “Gene” Gascon, 73 years, of Sullivan St. Mt. Morris died Friday, April 30, 2010 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville after being stricken at his home. He was born in Hemlock, NY February 21, 1937 the son of Chester and Gertrude McKibbin Gascon. A graduate of Hemlock School, he was employed by Delco for many years prior to having taken a disability retirement. An avid beekeeper, he was a member of the Western New York Honey Producers Association.

Gene is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janet Mathewson Gascon; children, Ronald (Sue) Gascon of State College, PA., Lawrence (Beth) Gascon of Almond, Scott (Betty) Gascon of Frostproof, FL., and Jeffrey (Linda) Gascon of Warsaw, VA. 7 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter. sisters, Marge (Dave) Ragan of Yuma, AZ., Grace Sweaton of VA., Alice Gascon of Conesus, Martha Ross of Groveland, brothers, Daniel (Gayle) Gascon of Conesus and Charles Gascon of Wayland. several nieces and nephews.

Ann Ketchum, 94 years, of Bristol passed away April 27, 2010 at her home. Ann was predeceased by husband Milton C. Ketchum in 2009. She is survived by son Gerald (Christine) Ketchum of Bristol. Jeanette G. Griswold, age 74, of New Smyrna Beach, died Friday, April 9, 2010 at Florida Hospital DeLand.
Born in Rochester, New York, Mrs. Griswold, a homemaker, moved to Florida in 1979 from Honeoye, New York. A loving wife and mother, she enjoyed taking care of her family, gardening and her flowers, and cooking. Mrs. Griswold was a great animal lover, and enjoyed fishing and shrimping.

Survivors include 3 children, Ronald Griswold of Perry, New York, David Griswold of New Smyrna Beach, and Darlene Cratsley of Midland, North Carolina; a brother, Warren Voisey of Rochester, New York; a sister, Joan Beich of Wainesburg, Virginia; 6 grandchildren, Angelica, Amy, Andrew, Matt, Mark, and Bethany; 2 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Griswold was preceded in death by her husband, Irving in 2008 and son, Thomas in 1980.

Honeoye: Joyce E. Barrett, Honeoye, NY April 22, 2010 at age 83 surrounded by loving family after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Mrs. Barrett was born August 16, 1926 in Richmond, NY, daughter of Arthur and Edna (Ace) Treble. She was predeceased by her husband, Ezra (Scoop) Barrett, sisters Doris Cochrane, and Althea Bilous.

Joyce was employed by BOCES, then FLCC, Canandaigua, NY as a nursing instructor for many years prior to retirement, a member of the Eastern Star, Honeoye Chapter, the Keuka College Alumni Association and Honeoye United Church of Christ.

She is survived by one son; Ronald Barrett of Honeoye, NY, four daughters; Patti (Bil) Saxby of Honeoye, NY Mechele (Spencer) Shumway of Honeoye, NY, Kim (Jim) Csabi of FL, Kris (Greg) Deragon of Avon. 5 grandchildren; Andy Saxby, Ethan and Joshua Deragon, Spencer and Emma Csabi. One sister; Mary (Joe) Watson of Honeoye. Brothers; Arthur Treble of FL, Bert (Peggy) Treble of Honeoye, many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends, Friday, May 7, 2010 at the Honeoye United Church of Christ, Route 20A, Honeoye, NY at 4:00 and a service will follow at 5:30.

Elwood W. Peck – April 20, 2010

Livonia: April 20, 2010 at age 82 years. Survived by his wife of 61 years Ruth A. Peck and son David (Josette) Peck both of Livonia. Three grandchildren; Justin and Danyel Quackenbush and Delaney Peck , cousin Ginny Morsch of Lakeville, and several nieces. Elwood was a 60 year member of the Livonia Fire Department serving in many capacities including Chief.

Elwood was a charter member of the Livonia Fire Department Ambulance Squad. He also was a Livingston County Deputy Fire Coordinator for many years. He was a retiree of the New York State Department of Transportation where he worked for many years. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home for their compassion and care.

Kevin P. Quinlan – April 12, 2010

Avon : Kevin Patrick Quinlan, born July 20th, 1935 and entered into eternal peace on April 12th, 2010 at his Avon residence surrounded by his loving family. Kevin was predeceased by his parents Henry and Charlotte Quinlan and his two sisters Noreen and Annie. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marcia Dougherty Quinlan, his four children Timothy (Deborah) Quinlan of Springwater, Kimberly Quinlan of Avon, Kathleen (Brett) Bennett of Avon, and Daniel (Christine)Quinlan also of Avon. His family was his world, his grandchildren and great-grandson the light of his life. His love and memory goes on in Christopher and Holly Batzel, Jessica and Cody Bennett, Courtney and Katelyn Quinlan, Ashley and Zachary Quinlan, and his little Bub, Jackson Semmel. Kevin will also be missed by his doting companion, his cat Abby.

Kevin was employed as Supervisor in the Transportation Department at Niagara Mohawk (National Grid) until his retirement 18 years ago. An assessor for many years he continued to work after his retirement and was employed by the Town of Caledonia. Kevin had a 51 year history as a member and past chief of the Avon Fire Department, and he was also a member of the NYS Fire Chief’s Association as well as a social member of the Springwater Fire Department. Kevin was also Veteran of the United States Marine Corp and a member of the NYS Assessor’s Association.

Kevin was always busy doing something, and always kept track of his kids and grandkids. We dubbed that as being “roll call”. When not working or talking fire department things you could always find him riding his John Deere tractor up in Springwater. Our hero fought his battle for 2 years with great courage and dignity, and he will be greatly missed.

John A. “Jack” Lowe, 82 of Livonia died Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010. Jack was predeceased by his wife Evelyn Lowe and granddaughter, Caitlyn Lowe and sister Dottie Shields. He is survived by his loving children, Steve of Seminole, FL. Terry (Bob) of San Diego, CA. and John (Patty) of Webster. Grandchildren, Hannah, Mark James, Allison and Madison. Nieces and nephews. Special friends, Chuck and Lois Owens, Bob and Ginny Butler, and Barb and Bill Phillips.

Jack was a salesman for Srantoms for 30 years. He was born Christmas Day in Wildwood,NJ, resided in Livonia, and most recently, lived in St. Petersburg, FL. Jack loved attending Livonia sports games (as the candy man!), enjoyed playing in the men’s softball league, coaching little league, working at Pontillo’s pizzeria, and an was an avid Pittburgh Steeler’s fan. He was the greatest Dad in the whole world.
