Livonia: Rosalia C. Sweeney, 93 years of Big Tree St. Livonia, died Sunday December 27, 2009 at Highland Hospital in Rochester after being admitted earlier that day. She was born in West Pawlet, Vermont, November 15, 1916, the daughter of James and Clara Mason Cramer. She was predeceased by her husband, local prominent businessman, Maurice F. Sweeney on October 6, 1998.

She is survived by her daughters, Susanne (Steve) Greenberg of Voorheesville, NY, Anne (Gerard) Bisceglia of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Maura (Alberto Lopez) Sweeney of Baltimore, Maryland and 4 grandchildren.

Carl F. Fontaine – December 26, 2009

Carl F. Fontaine, 79 years, of Branch St. Livonia, died Saturday December 26, 2009 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mount Morris, after a brief stay. Carl was born in Ossian, NY September 3, 1930, the son of Zephir and Agnes Rawlings Fontaine. He was predeceased by his wife, Maybelle in 1979. A retired construction worker, he was a member of Local Carpenters Union #85. Carl served his country in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954, when he was honorably discharged. His membership included the former St. Josephs Church in Livonia, St. Matthews Church in Livonia, also the Dansville VFW Post #6780. He also was a lifetime member of the Canaseraga American Legion Post.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Arlene Moyer of Livonia. His sister, Agnes Nagel of Pickens, South Carolina. 20 nieces and nephews, many dear friends.

Gerard A. “Gerry” Giehl, 58 years of McPhersons Point, Conesus Lake, Livonia, NY, formerly of Greece, NY, died at his home Tuesday evening, December 22, 2009 in the arms of his loving family. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, July 7, 1951, the son of Aloysius and Mary Martinelli Giehl. Gerry received his extensive education at St. Andrews Seminary, Kings Prep, Becket Hall, St Bernards Semininary and St John Fisher College all in Rochester. Gerry was an active member of St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church in Livonia.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Barbara Quinlan Giehl; daughter AnneMarie Giehl of NYC; sons, Brian Giehl of Greece, Brendan Giehl of NYC, Brett Giehl of Rochester; parents, Aloysius and Mary Giehl of Rochester; sister, Mary (Greg Boyer) of Syracuse; brothers, John (Debby) Giehl of Irondequoit, Alan (Nancy) Giehl of Boulder, CO; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. A former Eastman Kodak employee, he was a beloved mathematics and photography teacher at Our Lady of Mercy High School.

Bristol: December 18, 2009 at age 86. Predeceased by loving husband of 60 years, Herbert W. Leslie, and Grandson Brandon Leslie. Survived by children; Sandra (Timothy) Cannon of Honeoye Falls, Kevin Leslie of Bristol, and Cheryl (Rodney) Siple of Canandaigua. Grandchildren; Scott (Jenelle) Siple, Sarah Cannon, Kaleigh Leslie, Keegan Leslie, and Terry Cannon. Two Great-Grandchildren; Riley and Reese Siple.

Jeanette was born October 10, 1923 in Elmira Pennsylvania to parents Thurston Wales Watson and Alice J. Watson (Simons.) She worked as a Product Inspector for many years at the Corning Glass Works in Corning, NY and this is where she met her husband Herbert W. Leslie. She was a member of the Pinnacle Lutheran Church for many years and was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.

Warren E. “Stub” Bartlett, Sr. – December 13, 2009

Sparta-Lakeville: 87 years, of Reeds Corners Road, Sparta died Sunday December 13, 2009 at Teresa House in Geneseo, NY. Stub was born in Livonia, NY January 10, 1922, the son of Lewis E. and Adella Perkins Bartlett. He was a World War 2 Veteran of the US Army Air Force. He was a longtime member of the Lakeville United Church of Christ, a member of the Lakeville Fire Dept. and its Exempt Club and a social member of the Sparta Fire Department. Warren was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Co., who enjoyed gardening and became a great animal lover in his retirement years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ruth Wilson Bartlett; children, Warren and Shari Bartlett, Jr. of Pavilion and Connie and Don Collins of Wayland. 5 grandchildren, Chris Bartlett, Tracey Crowley, Missy Buchanan, Jon Bartlett, and Krista Bartlett. 5 great grandchildren, Makayla, Matthew, Claire, Brandon, and Catherine. Several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley and Kenneth Bartlett.

Virginia R. Connors – December 11, 2009

Richmond: 80 years, of 4504 White Road, Richmond, died Friday, December 11, 2009 at her home. She was born November 3, 1929 in Rochester, the daughter of Claude and Cora Jesse Dragt. She was a member of the Honeoye Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She was retired from the Ontario County Treasurer’s Office and previously worked at Springwater Manufacturing and Stone Conveyor.

Virginia was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Elmer H. Connors on November 17, 2006. She is survived by sons Michael and Juanne Connors of Rio Rancho, NM, David and Meretta Connors of Honeoye, and Mark Connors of Richmond; 3 grandchildren, Renee, Geoffrey and Misty; 1 great grandson, Logan; sister, Laura Kingsley of Honeoye; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Shirley Connors of Florida.

Ruth B. Foy – December 5, 2009

Livonia/Barre Center: Oct. 13, 1922 – Dec. 5, 2009. Predeceased by husband Peter A. Foy and brother Chandler Brown. Ruth graduated from Cornell University where she met Peter. Ruth and Peter farmed in Livonia on Rt. 15 for many years. She also worked in the Livonia School Cafeteria and at WNY Syrup as a secretary. She was an active member of the former St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for almost fifty years and a present member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.

Survived by her children; Ginger (Jerry) Duvall of Jupiter, FL; Pat (Glenn) Kistner of San Francisco; Eileen (Ken) Hynes, Dansville; Jim (Marilyn) Foy, Albany; Beth (Dave) Cronk, Queen Creek, AZ; and Monica (David) Kingston, Geneseo. Grandchildren; Karie (George) Frisiras; Robyn (James) DeLorenzo, Michelle Duvall; Jerome (Megan), Peter (Cristen), Courtney and Nicole Kingston. Prior to retirement Linda was a kindergarten teacher at Livonia Primary School. Previous to that, she taught nursery school at Conesus Lake Nursery School and 3rd grade at School No. 33 in Rochester. She touched many young childrens’ lives with her bright smile, easy laugh, and warm caring nature.
