Joan M. Schuster (Crowe) – October 28, 2009

Livonia: Joan M. Schuster (Crowe), of Richmond Mills Road, passed Wednesday morning at Rochester General Hospital. She was born September 5th, 1935 in Washington DC to parents George and Ruth Crowe. Joan grew up in Rochester and graduated from West High School in 1953. She wed her husband George on October 26th, 1957 at St. Monica’s Church on Genesee Street in Rochester. They shared the joy of roller skating by meeting twice a week once at Long Point Park near George’s home town and the other time at Eddy’s on Chestnut Street in the city. In addition to being a home maker on the family dairy farm with her husband and seven children, Joan was employed by the Livonia Central School District as a Teacher’s Aid from 1974 to 1997. Joan enjoyed watching her children and grandchildrens’ sporting events throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years George T. Schuster, Jr. and their children; William (Mary) Schuster of Livonia, Robert (Midge) Schuster of Americus, GA, Kathleen (Jeff) Dodsworth, Daniel (Laurie) Schuster, Kevin (Karen L.) Schuster, Karen A. Schuster, and Mary Ann (Gary) Benedict all of Livonia.

Also survived by Sisters; Beverly Tater of Buffalo & Nancy Robbins of Prattsburgh. Brother; Bruce Crowe of Atlanta, GA and by family friend Christine Leskovar. Grandchildren; Michael Schuster, Brittany & Brandon Snyder, Matthew and Sara Schuster, Kaitlin and Kevin Grouse, Jenna Dodsworth, Daniel and Robert Schuster, Scott Schuster, Nicole and Thomas Benedict, numerous Nieces, Nephews, and many friends. Honeoye: Josephine E. Pfeiffer, 97 years of Edgewood Trail, Honeoye, formerly of Webster and Rochester, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home in Livonia, where she had resided for a short period of time. She was born September 7, 1912 in Cherry, PA., the daughter of John and Josephine Reagan. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Sibley’s and R.T. French Co. both in Rochester. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. Pfeiffer on December 26, 1995.

Mrs. Pfeiffer is survived by her sons, John and Robert Pfeiffer both of Honeoye. Her sisters, Christine McDonald of Maryland and Helen Dean of Maryland. Her brother, Charles Reagan of Webster. several nieces and nephews.

Formerly of Canadice Lake Road, Hemlock and Pinehurst Senior Living Community in Honeoye Falls, NY died October 18, 2009 age 88 at St. John’s Home in Rochester after a lengthy illness. He was born in Livonia, NY son of James and Louise Parks DeGraff. Mr. DeGraff is a retiree of Eastman Kodak and also served his country in WWII Army Air Corps.

He was a pilot of a P-61, also known as the “Black Spider” in a nitefighter squadron. He returned safely to his very proud family. James J. Carey of Church Hill Road, Henrietta died at St. John’s Home in Rochester October 7, 2009 age 84. James was born in Honeoye Falls September 5, 1925 son of John and Anna Cahill Carey. He was a graduate of Honeoye Falls Central School and RIT where he received his degree in electrical engineering. He was a US Naval Veteran of World War II and an electrical engineer retiring from Chloride Electro Networks in Caledonia.
James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Monica Gaffney Carey; his daughters, Barbara Carey of Olympia, Washington, Mary Ellen (Lewis) Whipple of Webster and Susan Carey of Rochester. 4 Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Dansville/N. Ft. Myers, FL: Velma J. (Wilcox) Jerome, 75, formerly of Sandy Hill Rd., Dansville, passed away September 20 at The Vincent House in Wayland, NY after a courageous battle with cancer.
Velma was born September 29, 1933 in Richford, NY to Agnes (Findlay) and Homer L. Wilcox. Velma graduated from Dansville High School in 1951. She and Thomas C. Jerome were married on October 12, 1951 at the United Methodist Church in Dansville by Rev. Carl Vanderburg. Velma worked 41 years in banking, retiring March 26, 1993. She loved raising their three children, loved people and her job. Velma was a scout leader and spent many years camping and traveling. She liked playing cards, bingo, cooking, dancing, bowling, and helping people in general. She enjoyed her bank retiree, class of 1951, and her family luncheons.
Velma is a member of the United Methodist Church in North Ft. Myers, FL., and the women of the Moose #670 of Dansville.
Velma was predeceased by her parents, a brother Kent L. Wilcox and sister Vera (Wilcox) Wolfer. She is survived by her husband Thomas of 57 years and her children Peter C. (Mary) Jerome of Dansville, Pamela J. (Dean) Harvey of Canaseraga and Paula M. (Roger) Werth of Harrisburg, NC. 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Adam) Standish, Cathryn, Margaret, Jonathan and Rebekah Jerome, Kyla, Kylee, Kelcy and Kelby Harvey, Kirk and Jenna Werth, and one great-grandson Mason Standish. She is also survived by two sisters, Verna M. (Rev. Richard) Fox of Dansville and Vesta Teeter of Brockport, NY, and two Brothers, Keith A. (Barbara) Wilcox of Dansville and Kevin B. Lima: August 31, 2009 at age 91. Predeceased by husband William P. Cook Sr. and grandson William P. Cook III. Survived by children; William P. Died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at age 73. He was born in Nunda the son of Walter F. and Jessie Birk Carpenter. Rodney was a graduate of Cornell University in Civil Engineering, and served 20 years as Superintendent of Highways for Livingston County. He was an avid hiker and enthusiastic volunteer in his church and community.

Rodney was predeceased by his loving wife Nancy (Gibson) Carpenter. Helen J. Morsch, 89 years, of Greece, NY formerly of Livonia, died at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a long illness. Prior to being admitted to the hospital, she was a resident of the Avon Nursing Home for the past several years. She was born in Wayland, NY the daughter of Joseph and Kathryn Yohon Morsch. She was a graduate of Livonia High School, served in the Armed Forces during World War 2 and then went on to pursue a career at Eastman Kodak Co. where she retired from in 1985. While living in Greece, she was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. In Livonia, she was a member of the former St. Joseph’s Church and the current St Matthew Church.
She is survived by her brother Paul (Frances) Morsch of Montgomery, Alabama. Her sisters, Oleta Kipp of Rochester, and Arlene Johnston of Geneseo. Her sisters-in-law, Virginia Morsch of Lakeville and Mary Ann Morsch of Livonia. Several nieces and nephews.

Honeoye-Melbourne, FL: August 13, 2009 at age 86. Survived by his sister, Beverly Gillette of Lima, several nieces, nephews, cousins. Special friend, J. Jarvis Taylor of Virginia. He was a graduate of Hemlock High School, and the University of Rochester. He was employed by National Cash Register as an engineer prior to his retirement to Florida, where he became a pro in shuffleboard tournaments. Declining health brought him back to New York.

Avon-Rochester: Betty J. Rossiter, died August 12, 2009. She was born in Rochester, NY August 3, 1919 daughter of Marvin and Violet Homuth Hogan. Betty was a graduate of Nazareth High School, Rochester State Hospital School of Nursing, and The University of Rochester. She retired from Rochester State Hospital in 1972 as a supervising nurse after 28 years of service. Betty was a member of St. Agnes Church and St. Boniface Church
Betty was predeceased by husband of 59 years, William in 2001. She is survived by sons Michael D. (Patricia) Rossiter of Avon, Daniel K. (Barbara) Rossiter of Livonia. 6 grand-children, Daniel W. (Rachel) Rossiter of Syracuse, Daniel L Dangler of Rochester, Andrew J (Mary) Rossiter of Virginia, John P. (Bobette) Rossiter of Okinawa, Thomas M. Rossiter of Livonia, and Sarah N. Rossiter of Rochester and 8 great grand-children; brother Marvin (Joanne) Hogan of Mendon and several nieces and nephews.
